Genealogy Club To Host ‘Researching Military Records And More On Fold3’ Program
Marian Burk Wood, a longtime member of Genealogy Club of Newtown (pictured), will be the featured speaker at the club’s May 10 meeting, to be conducted via Zoom. Her topic is “Researching Military Records and More on Fold3.”
For people researching family history, Fold3.com is a convenient gateway to millions of military records and more, including naturalization documents, passport applications, and city directories.
Wood’s program will provide an overview of Fold3’s wide-ranging genealogical content and then demonstrate, step-by-step, how to navigate the site, with specific examples of research strategies for military and non-military documents.
Attendees will also learn how to create or expand memorial pages for ancestors who served in the military, accessible to anyone who searches on Fold3. Of special note: Connecticut residents can access Fold3 databases for free via the Connecticut State Library, with a free state library card.
Wood is the author of the popular genealogy book, Planning a Future for Your Family’s Past, a guide to organizing, curating and preserving family history for the sake of future generations.
An experienced speaker and a longtime genealogy blogger about family history issues and methodology (ClimbingMyFamilyTree.blogspot.com), she earned an MBA from Long Island University and a BA from the City University of New York.
Wood is a Bronx native, now living in Southbury, who has been researching and documenting her family tree for 25 years, with a special interest in preserving family history.
