Raymond J. Flynn
Raymond J. Flynn, formerly of Sandy Hook, died on April 7, 2023, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina, after a brief illness.
Ray was born on March 19, 1935, in Jersey City, N.J., to the late Raymond and Grace Flynn.
He proudly served in the United States Army. Ray briefly played baseball for the NY Giants, but left to go to work to help his family. He worked for American Can for many years in New Jersey, New York, and then Connecticut. After an early retirement, he sold cars in New Milford dealerships. There he met his wife Shaaron when he sold her a car. They were married in 1991 and in 1996 they moved to Conway, S.C., to be near his two favorite things: the ocean and golf.
He went to work at the International World Tour Golf in Myrtle Beach, employed there for over 20 years until his death. That was his favorite of all his jobs.
Ray is survived by his wife, Shaaron Flynn of Conway, S.C.; his daughter, Suzyn Flynn of Smithfield, R.I.; his brother, Thomas Flynn (Deborah) of Conway; and his stepchildren: Rick Didato of Massachusetts, Lisa Sheridan of Sandy Hook, Ernest Lattanzio of Cheshire, and Lynn Yeager of Newtown. Ray also leaves behind four grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, April 29, from 5 to 6:30 pm, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home of Myrtle Beach.
It’s funny how God works. I have no idea what possessed me to look up Ray Flynn but today but I did and saw that he recently passed. My fathers name was Frank Drew and he and Ray were first cousins, very close growing up from what my dad told me, with Ray being Best Man at my parents wedding in April 1955. I met Ray a few times when he came to our house, sometimes along with Aunt Gracie and his brother Billy, and at my wedding in 1982, the last time I remember seeing all my fathers cousins. Sharon and Suzan you were both very fortunate to have shared many good time with him and I am so glad that Ray lived a long life and got to enjoy his grandchildren and a Great grandchild. My dad died in 1980 and my children never knew what a wonderful man he was. The photograph of him that you posted made me smile as I could still see the man I remembered.
My condolences to you both and God Bless his memory……..
