MONROE — The American Legion District 3 is sponsoring a Kids Walk to benefit the CT Children’s Medical Center (CCMC).

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, beginning at 10 am, at Great Hollow Lake pavilion, 1 Purdy Hill Road in Monroe.

American Legion Post 202 Newtown & Brookfield will be working in concert with host Monroe Post 176.

Great Hollow is a beautiful setting for a nice walk. All are invited to participate as individuals or as a team. By town ordinance, dogs are not allowed.

Donations are requested and can be done the day of the walk by cash or check.

The Connecticut Children’s Medical Center provides specialty care for infants to young adults and athletes. They have locations in Shelton, Danbury, Hartford, Farmington, and Glastonbury. Walk-in and same-day appointments are available in Danbury, Hartford, Farmington, and Glastonbury.

Meet & Greet April 22

The American Legion is an active organization supporting veterans, veteran families, towns, and schools.

American Legion Post 202 Newtown-Brookfield meets the first Wednesday of the month, August through June, at 7 pm, at Newtown Community Center. Annual activities for the local post include participating in the Newtown Labor Day Parade, and presenting a Kids Fishing Derby, Oratorical Contest (grades 9-12), Boys & Girls State (HS Juniors), Veterans Day at Newtown High School, Valentines for Troops, awards for graduating high school seniors, and Memorial Day ceremonies.

A Meet & Greet is planned for Saturday, April 22, from 10 am until 2 pm. Current members will be attending, and anyone interested in learning about the local post and its activities is invited to stop in.

All veterans who served honorably are welcome. Veterans do not need to have served overseas to join, nor do they need to live in Newtown. American Legion Posts from multiple towns will be represented; guests will be invited to join the post of their choice.

Veteran family members are welcome. A veteran may be living or deceased.

American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion Family will be there as well.

American Legion Department Assistant Service Officer Mary Harris will be present from noon until 2 pm, answering questions regarding the newly passed PACT Act, veteran service needs, and offering information about filing claims for disability compensation for service-related injuries or illness.

Hearts of Hope-Newtown will also have members at the Meet & Greet, with prepainted patriotic hearts and heart painting kits available to purchase.
