Allan Bowen, Jr
Allan F. “Gerry” Bowen, Jr, 94, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at Danbury Hospital on March 19, 2023. He was the son of the late Allan F. Bowen, Sr, and Grace (Durand) Bowen. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie Bowen; father of Valerie, Steven (Maria), and Jennifer Bowen; and grandfather of Diana Bowen, Sabina Broberg, Brienne Bowen, Nola Broberg, and Brandon Bowen.
Gerry was known for his lifelong devotion to his family, the New York Yankees, golf, and bridge. Born on November 14, 1928 and raised in the Bronx, New York City, he previously lived in Arlington, Virginia, Takoma Park, Maryland, and Cinnaminson, New Jersey.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed at Henderson Hall base and honorably discharged in 1948, and he was known to rate the Marine Corps food rather highly. After his military service he attended NYU and worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Manhattan where he met his wife, Marie. They subsequently moved to the Washington, D.C., area where he attended George Washington University and raised his family.
He worked in the aircraft and electronics industries, including Honeywell during which time he was awarded patents for electronics products that he developed. He subsequently worked as an engineer for Baltimore Air Coil, specializing in industrial heating and air conditioning, and later transitioned to sales as a manufacturer’s representative for those products. Gerry possessed an innate mechanical ability and could effortlessly fix or jury-rig any item in a state of disrepair.
His frequently irascible and impatient demeanor belied his integrity, generosity, honesty, and reliability. He was an exceptional human being who always put his family first.
