Newtown Cultural Arts Commission To Award Grants
Newtown Cultural Arts Commission will be awarding two or more project grants with a total of $2,500 in two categories — individual artists and groups — that bring the arts to Newtown.
Individual artists must be a resident of Newtown. Although any group or organization that is applying for the grant does not have to be registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the group must be an established Newtown entity.
Deadline to apply is May 15, 2023
The same application is used for organization grants and individual grants and is available for download at newtownartscommission.org.
Funds for the grants come from the proceeds of the 2022 Newtown Arts Festival, a project of the cultural commission.
Past winners of the organization grants have included Flagpole Photographers, The Town Players, Stray Kats, Friends of Newtown Seniors, and The Clay Date Potters.
Individual grants have been won by Virginia Zimmerman, the artist who created the Welcome to Newtown mural on the Church Hill Road railroad bridge support; Lindsay Fuori, who created the mural at Newtown Park & Bark; and Johnny A. Williams, a sculptural wood artist and furniture maker who was the inaugural NCAC grant winner.
Along with the monetary award, the winning arts group and individual artists will be invited to show their accomplishments at the 2023 Newtown Arts Festival, set this year for September 23-24 at Fairfield Hills.
