November 21, 1937 to March 12, 2023

Frances K. Shogren, who was known as “Fran,” passed away peacefully on March 12, 2023, at home in Clermont, Florida.

Fran was born November 21, 1937, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, daughter of Eric and Elsa Swenson.

She was a dedicated elementary teacher for 38 years, commencing in Fairfield, Connecticut, before moving to Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico. Following that, Fran traveled to Chateauroux, France (South of Paris), where she continued teaching and met her husband of 57 years, Gordon Shogren.

Fran and Gordie spent 17 years living in Trumbull and 17 years in Newtown and taught at Stepney Elementary School, Monroe, Connecticut. Fran influenced many young lives and, to this day, was so happy to stay in touch with some of her students.

Both Fran and Gordie spent many years engaged in the Barnum Festival, Bridgeport, Connecticut, and were specifically responsible for the Jenny Lind competition and concert (part of a cultural exchange program with Sweden). The competition was for classically trained sopranos, and through these events Fran and Gordie made many life-long friends in the United States and in Sweden. These friends have continued to be close to them both and they spent many vacations with friends in Sweden.

Fran and Gordie retired to Clermont, Florida, in 1998.

Fran is survived by her husband, Gordie.

Gordie and friends wish to gratefully acknowledge everyone who was involved with the exceptional care Fran received by the Clermont Hospice team.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 30, 2023, at The Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Clermont, Florida.

Donations in Memory of Frances “Fran” K. Shogren should be made to one of the following Children’s Hospitals: Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Boston; St Jude Children’s Research Hospital; or Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Orlando.
