Thomas Cassin
Thomas “Tom” Robert Cassin, age 91, of Newtown, Connecticut, died peacefully surrounded by his beloved children, Margaret M. “Peggy” Cassin of Bethel, Conn., Thomas F. Cassin of East Hampton, Conn., and Barbara E. (Cassin) Yeager of Ellington, Conn., on March 4, 2023. Tom’s cherished wife, Margie, predeceased him on November 3, 2019.
Tom was born in Mineola, Long Island, New York on December 9, 1931. He was the son of Thomas A. and Ellen Cassin and was a chemical engineer for Union Carbide for most of his career. Tom was also an active member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Newtown, Conn., serving as a Eucharistic minister and a religious education teacher.
Tom was an amazing person. Everyone who met and knew him held him in such high esteem, describing him throughout his life as a gentleman who was kind, smart, funny, and humble. Tom was also generous, a loyal friend, and a devoted husband and father. He was truly well loved, the epitome of a “class act.”
Tom was predeceased by his sister, Irene, her husband, Penn Reagan, and son-in-law, Scott R. Yeager. He was also predeceased by his loving in-laws, Thomas and Anna Tyrrell and Philomena Tyrrell.
In addition to his three children, Tom is survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Cassin, Thomas Cassin, and Colin Yeager. He is also survived by his son’s fiancé, Monica Sava, his in-laws, Anne and James McGowan, Mary and Robert McEvoy, and John J. Tyrrell, as well as his many loved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 9, at 10:30 am, in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, Conn. Interment will take place immediately after at Saint Rose Cemetery.
