The Town & Country Garden Club will host Randy Walker, president of Pootatuck Watershed Association (PWA), at its next meeting.

The club will be at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street, on Wednesday, February 8. The meeting will begin at 7 pm and all are welcome.

The senior center can be accessed through the main entrance of Newtown Community Center, at the same address.

Walker plans to share what the Association is doing to raise awareness of water quality and supply issues.

PWA advocates for sustainable land-use practices and supports groups such as Newtown Forest Association, Protect Our Pollinators, and the Town of Newtown commissions charged with protecting the land and water resources.

He and his wife Robin, who was a teacher for 20 years at Sandy Hook Elementary School, have lived in Newtown for more than 33 years. They also raised their three children here.

Moving to Connecticut in 1981 from Texas, Walker worked in several supply chain roles including Union Carbide and, most recently, retiring in 2020 as director of purchasing for Aquarion Water Company.

Through the years, Walker has developed a deep appreciation for nature, enjoying both vegetable and flower gardening, spending his free time hiking and fly fishing and relishing Newtown’s wealth of natural beauty.

The Town & Country Garden Club is a small and energetic club that has been a staple of Newtown for almost 60 years. New members are always welcomed.

In addition to offering similar gardening and environmental monthly programs, members design and maintain three of Newtown’s main traffic islands, are involved in community and volunteer events, actively support the protection of Newtown’s environment, and offer scholarships to local students.
