Newtown Police, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company responded to Riverside Road just east of the four-way intersection in Sandy Hook Center shortly after 8 pm Sunday, December 4, after Nicole Haferl, 31, of Danbury, operating a 2019 Nissan Rogue, struck a utility pole there. Newtown Police report Haferl had been traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road when she went through the intersection onto Riverside Road, lost control of the vehicle, and struck a utility pole along the eastbound shoulder of Riverside. Haferl was transported to Danbury Hospital for suspected minor injuries. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No enforcement action was immediately taken.
