With the holidays and gift giving around the corner, the Genealogy Club of Newtown is planning a program to help readers find small, doable projects about ancestors that can be shared with relatives.

Marian Burk Wood will present “Bring Family History Alive in Bite-Sized Projects” during a Zoom presentation hosted by the club on Wednesday, November 9, beginning at 7 pm.

Burk Wood is the author of the popular genealogy book, Planning a Future for Your Family’s Past, a guide to organizing, curating and preserving family history for the sake of future generations. A longtime genealogy blogger (ClimbingMyFamilyTree.blogspot.com), she earned an MBA from Long Island University and a BA from the City University of New York.

Now based in Southbury, Burk Wood has been researching and documenting her family tree for 24 years — and counting.

“Bring Family History Alive in Bite-Sized Projects” will cover how to document family history stories in engaging, practical, bite-sized projects that can be shared with relatives and posted on genealogy websites.

Burk Wood will explain why it is important to narrow a focus to one ancestor, occasion, heirloom, photo, or place, and how to achieve that task. Like a sprint rather than a marathon, each project takes a short time and offers flexibility to be creative in spotlighting one aspect of family history to share with relatives.

Ideas include brief ancestor bios and booklets, heirloom stories, ancestor coloring books, photo books, and video-based family history.

Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Send an e-mail with name and address, phone number, and e-mail address to genclubnewtownct.secretary@gmail.com, no later than November 7.

Those planning to attend are asked to sign in at 6:45 so that everyone can be admitted before the meeting starts promptly at 7 pm.

Genealogy Club of Newtown meetings are co-sponsored by C.H. Booth Library. All are welcome to attend, and encouraged to become members. Dues are $25 for an Individual, and $35 for a Family membership.
