Nico David Saraceni

Nico David Saraceni, 29, of Newtown, passed away unexpectedly on October 10, 2022, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was enrolled in Southern Connecticut State University, where he would have graduated from in May of next year.

Nico was born in New York, N.Y., on February 7, 1993, to Robert and Brenda (Goplin) Saraceni. After graduating from Newtown High School in 2011, Nico attended Keene State University in New Hampshire, and most recently SCSU as an Interdisciplinary Studies major, with concentrations in creative writing and film studies. He was an extremely talented writer, poet, and an avid enthusiast of all things film and cinema. He will be remembered by his many classmates and professors as being a well-known and well-loved student with an empathic, kind spirit and a true intellectual curiosity. Nico was employed at Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria in New Haven where he was beloved by all of his coworkers.

Besides his parents, Nico will be missed by his sister, Isabella Saraceni; his paternal grandmother, Marie Saracen; his maternal grandmother, Beverly Goplin; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his beloved cat Kubo.

He is predeceased by his grandfathers, Robert Saracen and Lee Goplin.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in the daily chapel of Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South in Southbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church, with a reception to follow. A private interment will take place at St Rose of Lima Cemetery in Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Nico Saraceni Memorial Scholarship at Southern CT State University. Checks can be made payable to SCSU Foundation with “Nico Saraceni Memorial Scholarship” in the memo portion and sent to SCSU Foundation, 501 Crescent Street, New Haven CT 06515.
