Girls’ Swim Team Defeats Host Bunnell

Newtown High School’s girls’ swim team visited Bunnell of Stratford on October 11 and came away with a 92-70 win. Newtown clinched the team victory after the 200 yard freestyle relay race and exhibitioned the final three events. There is no diving at Bunnell.

The 200 medley relay team of Ella Seaver, Diellza Limani, Alexa Kwarcinski, and Maura Daly was first in 2:01.41.

Lauren Smiley won the 200 freestyle in 2:14.50. Limani and Emily Metzker went one-two in the 200 individual medley with times of 2:23.19 and 2:43.52. Maddy Watson won the 50 free in 28.47.

Kwarcinski was first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.32 and Maddie Marcisz was second in 1:12.96. Smiley was first in the 100 free, clocking in at 1:00.44, and Seaver placed second in the event with a time of 1:01.24.

Newtown again had the top two finishers in the 500 with Zoe Petertonjes winning in 5:33.13 and Daly coming in second, making her final touch in 6:03.18.

In the 200 free relay, the team of Anna Shew, Smiley, Seaver, and Kwarcinski was first in 1:52.27. Grace Fischer had the fastest time in the 100 backstroke event, clocking in at 1:08.23. Shew was fastest in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.01 and Noelle Marrazzo followed in 1:27.58.

The 400 relay team of Limani, Smiley, Fischer, and Petertonjes finished with the fastest time, 4:04.32.
