Absentee Ballots Available October 7, Special Registration Sessions Set

Town Clerk Debbie Aurelia Halstead advises Newtown voters that absentee ballots will be available on and after Friday, October 7, for the State Election to be held in Newtown on November 8.

Any qualified registered voter may vote by absentee if unable to vote in person due to:

*Active service in the Armed Forces of the United States;

*Absence from their town of residence;

*Sickness;

*Any religious tenets that forbid secular activity on the day of the election, primary or referendum;

*Performing duties as a primary, election or referendum official at a polling place other than their own during all of the hours of voting; and/or

*Physical disability

Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm. Special hours for absentee voting will be held on Saturday, November 5, from 9 am to noon at the Newtown Municipal Center.

Registration Sessions

In related election news, the Registrars of Voters Association of Connecticut has announced that all Registrars of Voters’ offices in Connecticut will hold a statewide voter registration session on November 1 from 9 am to 8 pm.

This is the last regular session for admission of electors who have turned 18, become a US citizen, or moved to Connecticut before November 1 of this year.

Also, all Registrars of Voters’ offices in Connecticut will hold a statewide voter registration session November 7 from 9 am to 5 pm.

This is the last registration session for admission of electors who have turned 18, become a US citizen, or moved to Connecticut since November 1 of this year. This registration session is also open to members of the Armed Forces, and former Armed Forces members who have been discharged within the calendar year.

These voter registration sessions will be held in accordance with CGS (Sec 9-16 & 9-17) — contact the Newtown Registrars’ of Voters office for details at 203-270-4240.
