Real Food CT, formerly Real Food Share, will have its second annual Seed-to-Plate Local Harvest Celebration at Castle Hill Farm, 1 Sugar Lane in Newtown, on Saturday, October 1, from 6 to 9 pm.

This is the nonprofit group’s second year presenting the farm-to-table event.

Real Food CT Executive Director Sean Fitzpatrick says guests can look forward to “the very best of Newtown in October!”

The Seed-to-Plate Local Harvest Celebration will feature “early fall harvest prepared by local chefs, multiple small plates, open bar of seasonal cocktails, live bluegrass, and dessert at one of the best farm event venues in our area,” he said.

Food will be prepared by Newtown’s own Steve Forgione from Phinney’s and Pam Buchler from Aquarian Caterers.

They will be working with produce donated from Shortt’s Farm in Newtown, Waldingfield Farm in Washington, Laurel Glen Farm in Shelton, and Daffodil Hill Growers in Southbury.

“Matt Kirshner from Uncle Matt’s Bakery will be handling dessert, and Amber Anchor will be setting the tone with some acoustic bluegrass,” Fitzpatrick added. “We’ve also got a lot of other community involvement we are excited about.”

Matching Grant

The Seed-to-Plate Local Harvest Celebration is a fundraiser for Real Food CT. Funds this year are earmarked for extension efforts of the nonprofit organization at its location at Sticks and Stones Farm in southern Newtown.

Fitzpatrick explained: “Highlighted by a commercial-size greenhouse, our organization is developing a Small Farm Model that can be replicated to develop farming and land ownership opportunities. Healthy food access remains a huge problem in the State of Connecticut for our neighbors in need, and we are working on sustainable solutions that highlight our local farming community.”

Real Food CT has also been approved for a Sustainable CT grant, which will double any donations in the group’s efforts to purchase this greenhouse.

“Anybody that buys tickets for our party will have their donation doubled! It’s an amazing opportunity, [and] you don’t have to buy tickets to donate for the greenhouse,” Fitzpatrick said.

With last year’s inaugural seed-to-plate event having sold out quickly, Fitzgerald is encouraging anyone interested in this year’s event to register as soon as possible.

Tickets are $125 per person. Registration can be done at realfoodshare.kindful.com/e/seed-to-plate-local-harvest-celebration-2022.
