Motorcycle Collision

On August 12, as previously reported in The Newtown Bee, Newtown Police, ambulance and fire volunteers, and a paramedic were dispatched to a head-on motorcycle versus vehicle collision on The Boulevard north of Hall Lane.

According to police, A.C. Raffensperger, 62, of Owego, NY was traveling north on a 2020 Moto Guzzi motorcycle when he crossed the yellow line striking the front end of a southbound 2016 Nissan Rogue being operated by Maggie Lucien, 40, of Bridgewater.

Both vehicles were damaged and had to be towed, and the cycle operator was transported to a nearby hospital for suspected serious injuries.

Raffensperger was subsequently issued a verbal warning for failure to drive right on a curve.

Civic Vs Tacoma

Newtown Police were called to the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road on August 19 at about 6:06 pm following a minor rear-end collision. Upon arrival, they found both vehicles had relocated to the adjacent commuter lot.

Following a brief investigation, police say Desiree Baskin, 31, of Danbury was traveling north on Berkshire in a 2018 Honda Civic, when she failed to stop for a 2011 Toyota Tacoma being operated by Nexhmi Freo, 57, of Watertown, who had slowed to make a turn.

No injuries were reported and no enforcement action was listed.

Wasserman Way Spinout

At about 8:51 pm on August 24, Newtown Police were called to a single vehicle crash on Wasserman Way near the intersection of Nunnawauk Road.

Upon investigating, police say that Dakota Baumann, 28, of Southbury, was operating a 2011 Mazda 3i eastbound on a curve when the front of the vehicle struck an eastbound guardrail and spun around striking the same guardrail before coming to rest, causing damage that required the Mazda to be towed.

Baumann was not injured, and was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Passing On Right

At about 4:18 pm on August 24, Newtown Police were called to a collision at the flagpole. After investigating it was reported that Emma Geraldine Bogursky, 19, of Sandy Hook was operating a 2013 Acura Mdx Tech and making a left turn from northbound Main Street into West Street when her vehicle was struck by a 2021 Nissan Rogue being operated by Richard Alvarez, 53, of Elizabeth City, N.C.

Police say Alvarez was traveling south and was passing a stopped line of traffic at the flagpole on the right when he struck the Acura. A passenger in the Nissan was reportedly evaluated for injuries but refused transportation to the hospital.

Alvarez was issued an infraction for passing on the right.

Two Vehicle Crash

Newtown Police responded to the area of Hawleyville and Currituck Roads around 11:37 am on August 25 after a reported crash.

Upon investigating it was determined that a 2019 Cadillac Ct6 being operated by Christine Marie Lewis, 56, of Brookfield was stopped on Currituck at the Hawleyville Road intersection, and then entered the path of a 2006 Toyota Avalon being operated by Tyler Paul Williams, 21, of Middlebury who was northbound.

No injuries were reported but both vehicles had to be towed due to damage. Lewis was then issued an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Wet Road Rear-Ender

On August 26 at about 6:24 pm, Newtown Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Glen and Walnut Tree Hill roads.

Upon arriving, it was reported that Wilton A. Rodriguez, 24, of Stony Point, N.Y. was operating a 2017 Ford Focus on Glen Road approaching Walnut Tree Hill Road when he stated he signaled a left turn and began slowing. At the same time, a 2006 Jeep Wrangler X being operated by Christopher Constantino, 37, of Southbury reportedly failed to slow and struck the Ford from behind.

Police say Constantino blamed the wet road surface. There were no injuries and Constantino was issued a verbal warning about traveling too fast for conditions.

Bumper Damage X2

A minor collision on Berkshire Road near Holly Lane around 6:48 am on August 26 resulted in a call to Newtown Police, who responded and determined that Thomas Dixon, 59, of Brookfield was traveling east on Berkshire operating his 2018 BMW X5 when he began to slow for traffic.

At that time police say Sarah Rose Futoura, 27, operating a 2015 Chevrolet pick-up failed to stop and struck the BMW causing bumper damage to both vehicles.

No enforcement action was provided and no injuries resulted, according to the report.

Following Too Closely

Newtown Police responded to a reported two-vehicle collision on August 26 at about 2:30 pm at South Main Street and Country Club Road.

Upon investigating, police reported that Christopher Haensel, 58, of Cheshire operating his 2014 Nissan Altima was stopped at the southbound intersection when he was struck from behind by a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek being operated by Kristin Carolyn Manfreda, 21, of Bethel.

No injuries were reported and police issued Manfreda a written warning for following too closely.

Warrant Service

On August 26 at approximately 8:48 am, officers from Newtown Police Department responded to South Britain Road in Southbury for a warrant service.

Chris Lewis, 36, of Plymouth (Conn.) was placed under arrest and processed according to Newtown Police Department policy and procedure and charged with violation of protective order for an incident that occurred on June 26 at an unidentified location on Church Hill Road.

He subsequently was served a court date of August 29.

Evading Arrest

On August 29 at about 2:35 pm, Newtown Police arrested Mohammad Azhar, 34, of Danbury near 191 South Main Street and charged him with evading responsibility and property damage.

No further details about the incident were provided at presstime.
