Driver Sought In Tree Collision
Newtown Police report that between the dates of May 31 and June 3, a vehicle of unknown make and model, possibly grey in color, went off the roadway and onto the property of the Sandy Hook Fire substation located at 249 Berkshire Road.
This vehicle caused damage to the lawn as well as a small tree, which was knocked over.
Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area on the dates above is asked to contact Officer Steve Borges at the Newtown Police Department at 203-426-5841.
Parking Lot Fender Bender
Newtown Police report Antonio Ciuro, 71, of Newtown, operating a 2022 Hyundai Kona, was backing in the private parking lot of 199 South Main Street, the town landfill, at 1:16 pm June 1. James O’Brien, 72, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., operating a 2018 Honda CR-V, was traveling forward in an unlined large open private parking area. The vehicles collided, with the front of O’Brien’s vehicle striking the rear of Ciuro’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.
Larceny Charge Arrests
Newtown Police report Amanda Belcher, 39, of Bridgeport, and James Coates, 47, of Stamford, were both arrested at 12:40 am June 3 on the charge of sixth-degree larceny. Both were released on a promise to appear with a court date of June 16. No further details were provided by presstime.
Damage Reported
Newtown Police report that Nicholas Houle, of Newtown, reported at 2:53 pm June 4 that his 2015 BMW 640i was damaged while parked in a driveway on Tinkerfield Road, facing out. Houle observed damage to the front driver’s side of the vehicle the next morning, and said there was no damage prior to going to the VFW the night before. He said that the parking lot was very dark and he did not notice damage on his vehicle or any others when leaving.
No suspect vehicles are known.
Rear-Ended On Church Hill Road
Newtown Police report Ralph McIntosh, 71, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling on Church Hill Road at 3:19 pm June 4, behind a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Richard Nordman, 60, of Newtown. Police say Nordman slowed in traffic at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Edmonds Road, and McIntosh’s vehicle struck front driver’s side bumper to rear passenger side bumper of Nordman’s vehicle. There was minor damage to both vehicles.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.
Disorderly Conduct
Newtown Police report Daniel Ruiz, 25, of Newtown, was arrested at 11:04 pm June 4 on the charge of disorderly conduct. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of June 6. No further details were provided by presstime.
Impact At Intersection
Newtown Police report Laura Miller, 68, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Honda CR-V, was stopped southbound on Currituck Road at the intersection of Main Street at 3:01 pm June 6. Tyler Miles, 26, of Newtown, operating a 2014 Chrysler 300S, was traveling northbound on Main Street. Miller’s vehicle entered the intersection to turn left onto Main Street as Miles was approaching. Police say Miles swerved left in an attempt to avoid Miller’s vehicle. The front end of Miller’s vehicle made contact with the passenger side of Miles’ vehicle, causing Miles’ vehicle to be pushed off the southbound shoulder.
Both vehicles were towed. No injuries were reported, but EMS responded for evaluation.
Miller was issued an infraction ticket for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.
Hit Vehicle At Parking Spot
Newtown Police report Courtney Zimmerman, 39, of Southbury, operating a 2019 Mazda CX-5, was attempting to pull into a parking space in a lot on Peck’s Lane at 10:10 am June 7. A 2018 Chevrolet Traverse owned by Christopher Giordano of Newtown was parked and unoccupied in a parking space facing out. The front right bumper of Zimmerman’s vehicle struck the right front bumper of Giordano’s vehicle, causing minor damage to both.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.
