Fighting Eagles 2, Wildcats 1: The Fighting Eagles continue to soar thanks to goals from Katie Sailer and Simone Paradis. Ashley Marron expanded her wings with some great midfield play while Nina Henriques flew around the backfield to keep those Wildcats out of the nest. The Eagles were led by guest coach Jesse Sailer from the U14 travel team, the Lightning.
The Wildcats were led by the strong overall play of Hannah Groonell and Sarah Widmann who both did a great job with moving the ball around the field. Sarah made a strong pass that set up the lone Wildcat goal and earning her an assist. In defense, the Wildcats were led by Corrin Bottom, Liza Gentrup, and Colleen Phaneuf. Colleen made a great play in front of her own net that saved a sure goal for the opponent.

American Eagles 4, Dynamites 1: For the American Eagles, Olivia Hage (2), Julia Doyle, and Hana Rosenthal scored on assists from Kaitlyn McNichols, Kelly Daly, and Rachel Tomasino. Caroline Viselli, Maya Neuhoff, and Grace Sholtes anchored the teamâs strong defensive effort, while Lauryn Ankers made several outstanding saves in goal. Olivia Butler scored the lone goal for the Dynamites. Brooke Varnum blocked numerous plays in her defensive role, while Mallory Lobuglio and Sophia Elhag kept the ball in the offensive half for most of the game.
Animals 5, Extreme Mustangs 3: Izzy Kaiser shined in goal for the Mustangs, while teammates Bella Jiminez added a hat trick on offense and Jillian Pieretti played tirelessly in midfield. For the Animals, Allie Reczek and Haley Harkins combined for four saves in goal, while goals were scored by Olivia Bellagamba, Taylor Pare, and Allie Indelicato.
Ridgefield/SCOR 3 Newtown Heat 2: The Heat lost on Sunday to a tough Ridgefield team. Diana Kirkman started off the scoring for the Heat, with Lauren King powering in the second Newtown goal. The Heat had solid defense with Audrey Sedensky and Priya Deraney, while Maria Ringes, Ellie Frost, Kaitlyn Reilly, and Elizabeth Chaniec-Case playing solid soccer in this tough game.
Underdogs 2, Wolverines 1: The Underdogs opened the game with a strike at goal by Natalie Shaker, assisted by the great efforts of Kira Smith. The Wolverines tied the game with a goal scored by Rebecca Gavel, assisted by Elizabeth Weisgerber. At the half, the game was tied until Underdogsâ Lauren Cirone sealed the deal with a sweet âbirthdayâ kick to take the lead. The Wolverinesâ Sophia Albano played a tough defense while Anna Steare stayed firm as goalie. Fantastic efforts in defense by Molly Ma and goalies Megan Nahmias and Haley Taylor.
Newtown Breeze 5, Easton-Redding Blue 4: Newtown took an early lead in the first half of the game against Easton-Redding, as Samantha Crespo, Maggie Beardsley and Jacklin Gouveia each netted a goal. After scoring one goal in the first half, Easton-Redding came back with three more to make the score 4-3, but Cecilia Schoeni sealed the Newtown win with back-to-back goals late in the second half. Savannah Mather played tough offensively for Newtown, while Erin Tressler was key on defense.
Newtown Breeze 1, Easton-Redding Black 1: Samantha Crespo scored the lone Newtown goal in the tie against Easton-Redding. Newtown kept the pressure on offensively throughout the game, relying on the efforts of Marcella Daily, Cassidy Kortze and Jessica Maturo. Greta Staubly anchored the team defensively, while Erin Tressler was outstanding at both ends of the field.

Newtown Thistle 1, Wilton 1: Once again, Stefanie Carr scored for Newtown at forward in the first half, and blocked difficult shots as goalie in the second half. Brianna MacDonald also skillfully deflected some tough shots in the goal. Defenders Emily Montoya and Brianna Lutz were first to the ball throughout the game. Julia Sughrue and Alessandra Manfredi demonstrated outstanding ball control against a tough Wilton team.

Black Hawks 2, BU-02 5: For team BU-02 Jonathan Radatovich scored two goals, while Jacob Laros, Trevor Tyrrell and Jeff Gioiele each had one goal a piece for the team. Sean Arnold had an outstanding game in goal and Andrew Manka had a great defense game. For the Black Hawks, Luke Fischer, Hunter Kirkman and Kyle Duval worked together and led a strong offense made great passes which resulted in Kyle pounding two goals into the net. Rohan Mansukhani and Jonathan Liberante offered strong midfield and defensive support while Devin Johnson playing solid defense and also made several good saves in goal.

Westport 4, Net Rippers 1: Rookie goalies Evan Eggleston and Matt Boochi couldnât hold back Westport shots on goal, despite great defensive efforts by Mark Hall, Ryan Brello and Silas Decker. Hunter Procaccini and Andy Greenwood had strong games, and Josh Harper, Matt Gerbo and Brendan OâHara played aggressively as well.

Newtown 5, Avon 1: On Saturday the U11 boys travel team played a powerful Avon team in their first State Cup qualifier match. Newtownâs offense was not impressed and continued on a scoring tear, beating Avon 5-1. Austin Engler started the scoring with a 20-foot blast off a Shane Gattey pass, the first of two scores for Engler on the day. Hayes Kelchner followed up shortly after with a breakaway for a score. Mike Meyers got into the action off a Richard Ciamarra pass and Jamie Cochrane finished off the day scoring from close range off an Owen Samson pass. Connery Mayer and Forest Weatherby along with Cochrane played shut down D the entire afternoon.
Newtown 5, Wilton 2: Sunday, Newtownâs offense kept up the heat against Wilton with a 5-2 win. Nathan Augenbraun put the pressure on early with an angled shot from 15 feet. Wilton responded but were back on their heels quickly after a Mike Meyers bender from 30 feet broke their spirit. Thomas Leuci followed up with a quick strike from close range off a Richard Ciamarra corner kick. Sebastian Forero finally cashed in on one of his numerous breakaways in the middle of the second half. Bobby Katrinak closed the day with a scoring blast late in the game off a Jamie Cochrane pass. Defensive play led by the physical Jack Riley, Forest Weatherby, and Connery Mayer again kept the game on the oppositions side of the pitch all afternoon.

Hot Pockets 5, Roma 4: Scoring for Roma were Matt Janco with three, and Tony Leonardi. Connor Flint did a great job as goalie for Roma, and Henry Lyon played great defense. Scoring for the Hot Pockets were Tim Kelly, Dylan Lew, Josh Tuffy, and Carter Nordman with two.
Phoenix 4 and Wolverines 3: Wolverines goals were by Jake Moore, James Wilkie and George Ferris. Mitchell Roberts did a great job as goalie. Defense by Danny Cummings and Peter Mithok. Omar Rodriguez scored three goals and Matt Woods scored one goal for Phoenix. Enea Musaka played strong defense and Will Robert as goalie stopped ball from going in goal.
American Tigers: 8, Team Five 2: Dillon Palumbo assisted Tim Vander Have who scored the first goal of the game. Timothy Vander Have took the ball all the way to the goal to score the second goal. Noah Orakwue had a clean throw-in. Alister Sore was able to use his powerful foot to shoot it into the upper right-hand corner of the goal. Ryan Szalay also scored. Nathan Williams made a nice play to get through the defense to set up Szalay for the sixth goal. Kevin Lopes performed some fancy footwork to breeze by the defenders and pass to Vander Have for another tally and Kevin Lopes dribbled to the goal and scored on a left-footed kick. Goalkeeper Patrick James Olah prevented the opponent team from scoring four times.
