FireBalls vs Cavaliers: FireBall offensive leaders were Katie Dirga and Juliette Cryder. The top defensive players were Olivia Grant and Kaitlyn King. The Cavs were led on offense by Sarah Tressler and Corrin Bottom. The top defenders were Rhyssa Swanson and Cali Ryder.

Hurricanes vs Filan Associates Dribblers: The Hurricanes were led offensively by Ashley Hammond and Sarah Nowacki. Top defensive players were Laura Augenbrau and Jane Shearin. The Dribblers were led offensively by Karsen Pirone and Kaley Meisenheir Top defensive players were Meghan Chipman and Kristina Balough.

The Candy Girls vs Dunkin Daises: The Candy Girls were led on offense by Eileen McCleary and Meghan LeBlanc. Top defenders were Emma Archieri and Rebecca Alicea. Dunkin Daisies offensive leaders were Shea Murphy and Taylor McPadden. The top defenders were Colleen Phaneuf and Angela Carriero.

Grade 4

Badgers 31, Carminuccio’s Timberwolves 20: Tess Davenport led all scorers with 20 points, receiving key screens and assists from Kendra Saunders. Carly Swierbut was a defensive stopper and Ally Tolson owned the boards in the win. For The Timberwolves, Annika Brady led the pack in scoring and Julia Sullivan dished out several assists. On the T-Wolves defensive side, Carolina Stubbs was a ferocious rebounder.

Exploding Oreos 16, Law Office of Gail Matthews Pink Panthers 16: Grace Pettinelli led the Oreos with 8 points — all from inside the paint. Sienna Cummings was assist leader. Heather Stroili was explosive on the defensive side and Jaclyn Moccio was the top rebounder. For the Panthers, the Vodola twins laid down the law on offensive; Angela was assist leader and Veronica provided 8 points. Samantha Bicho displayed her defensive prowess while Sonya Ahmaripour took charge of the glass.

Grades 5-6

The Storm 24, Colonial Chiropractic Dr Schmid Mighty Mustangs 20: In a toughly fought game, The Storm won their second consecutive game with trapping, pressure defense, and the scoring punch of Carly Kreshpan (10 points) and Julia Bogdanoff (6 points). Megan Kelleher chipped in 4 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Madison Findley added a basket and several key steals. The Mighty Mustangs defense was led by Ashley Santore, Jordan Williams and Casey Muckell. Natalie Shaker scored 9 points and Lauren King chipped in with 3 assists.

The Flash 23, 56ers 22: Allie Indelicato led a furious comeback for the The Flash with 17 points; 12 in the second half. Trailing 14-7 at half, The Flash, captained by Lauryn Ankers, came back with Claire Swanson scoring the winning basket late in the fourth quarter. Cathy Hyeon led a strong defense with help from Kaitlyn Hull and Katie Basset. Caitlyn Child and Abbie Pearson also chipped in on the scoring with a basket a piece. The 56ers came to life early in their second game, taking an early lead. High scorer for the 56ers was Grace Larsen, racking up 10 points with four baskets in a row. Megan Nahmias brought the fans to their feet with multiple fast breaks and making a beautiful layup under pressure. Alexandra Futterman and Sarah Dowling also lit up the scoreboard. Strong defense from Rachel D’Ausilio, Megan Nahmias, and Nandi Bropleh kept the score close.

Rankin Sports Pink Panthers 21, Pampered Chef Thunder 12: The Pink Panthers were led by point leader Caroline Caporale with 8 points and Elizabeth Weisgerber had 7 points. Hannah Luby and Simone Afriyie helped clear the boards. All around great defense and offense by Kathrine Shaw. The Thunder played a strong game, led by Ava Petrellese with 4 points. Amanda Solomon ripped down 4 rebounds while Corey Mangold and Danielle Powell played tough on defense.

Lady Hawks 27, 56ers 13: The Lady Hawks’ Nicole Frascatore and Emily Neave led the team with 6 points each. Natalie Kelchner provided some spark on offense with 4 assists. Sydney Flint led the team with 9 rebounds and Larkin Huffman anchored the defense with 5 steals. 56ers’ shots were up but could not find the basket. High scorer was Emily Bell with two field goals. Danielle Otero led in assists. Alexandra Futterman and Ashleigh Shaw dominated down low for rebounds. Rachel D’Asilio matched Nahdi Bropleh with multiple defensive steals.

Grade 6

Newtown 44 Brookfield 22: Newtown used a balanced scoring attack to double up Brookfield. Megan Goyda led with 11 points, followed by Hailey Conrad with 9. Meghan Doyle and Nikki Zaccaro tallied 8 apiece. Jillian Pieretti scored 4 and was tough on the boards. Jessica Maturo had several steals and added a basket.

Newtown 20 New Fairfield 31: Newtown was unable to contain #23, who scored 22 points for New Fairfield. Olyvia Shaw, Goyda, Zaccaro, and Conrad all scored 4 points. Newtown was tough on the boards, as Zaccaro pulled down 16 rebounds, Goyda 9, and Cassidy Datin 6. Colleen MC Carthy performed well at the point, distributing several assists. Kamdynn Moroney played aggressive defense throughout the game.

Midgets

Blue Ice vs Nighthawks: For the Blue Ice, CJ Demers and Jake Dandrea led the way on offense, while Miller Tetreault, Arav Dave, Jack Mahar, and Aidan DellaCorte were athletic on the defensive side. For the Nighthawks, Matthew Williams, Clayton Kunzweiler, and Brandon Akbas played a great defensive game for the Nighthawks making many great plays and pulling down lots of rebounds. Chris Shaker, Zach Kugler, and Conner Mandarano led the way on the offensive end, scoring a number of baskets and passing the ball around for numerous assists.

Bananas vs Maroon Magic: The Bananas had a great start to the year. Jack Street, Jack Petersen, Luke Hannan, Jake Mailloux, and Grant Baker led the offensive attack, while Jack Street, Noah DiNallo, Trevor Jacozzi, Karl Miller, Ethan Paley, and Benjamin Paley provided the defensive tenacity needed to shut down their opponent. The Maroon Magic team played well as a whole for their first full set of games. The team was getting used to playing man to man defense, while Nick Sortino and James Ciaramello played tough defense and showed a lot of hustle. Charlie Eppers and John Sullivan had very good games on offense as they contributed multiple baskets. Daniel Pond and Matthew Weisgerber were strong on both offense and defense as they both contributed baskets and played tough deny defense. All of the boys played hard and showed good team work with good passing.

Oranges vs Lightning: The Oranges opened up the 2010 season with a great offensive output from Patrick Boyle, CJ Cuomo & Dillon Diaspro. While a tough defense was applied by Michael Elston, Adian Finnegan, and Jeff Garrity. The Lightning played the first official game of their careers this weekend with an impressive display of skill and fundamentals. Ryder Palumbo was a scoring machine and Sean O’Sullivan played great defense all over the court. Nicholas Fischer had several great drives to the basket, while Hayden Miller and Ryan Heran grabbed numerous rebounds.

Grade 3

Newtown Road Race Blue Racers: Offensive players of the game were Owen Meeker and Jack Mulligan. Defensive players of the game: Bryce Benson and Justin DeThomas.

Huskies: The offense was led by Keenan Murphy, Liam Murphy, JP Ford, Luke Azzarito and Carter Tagliarini. The defense was led by Sean Roche, Austin Cote, Trevor Merrick, and Justin Engler.

Ghostbusters: Offense: Patrick Oberstadt, Jack Kuligowski, Eli Enriquez. Defense: JP Iaropoli, Stephen Sedensky, Nicholas Hobar

Golden Hornets: William Swift, Tucker Dupuy, Nathan Paltauf, Kyle Godfrey and Stephen Dooley led the way.

Red Devils: Quinn McAndrew, John Godino, Joe Rios, and Sean McKinley led the attack.

Wildcats: The team was led offensively by Attilla Sepkin, Will Archiere and Devin O’Connell. Defensive leaders were Kyle Good, Steven Vournazos, Chris Frascatore and Aidan Ventresca.

Connecticut Mavericks 13, New Milford 5: The offensive was led by Jack Kuligowski, Kyle Good, Liam Murphy, Keenan Murphy, Nick Kalra, and Joe Rios. Defense was led by Jack Mulligan, Jack Lydon, Dillon Robinson, Josh Taylor, and Kyle Sullivan.

Grade 4

The Beasts 29, Adviserstrust.com Heat 23: Faris Kaghat and Jimmy Davies combined for 26 points for the Beasts. Thomas Briscoe had 4 assists while Jimmy Davies had 4 steals and Faris Kaghat had 7 rebounds. For the Heat, Timmy Davis and James Clifford combined for 13 points while Brennan Mayer had 3 assists, Matthew Dubois had 5 steals and Thomas Hartley 7 had rebounds

Flaming Monkeys 17, Aces 12: Daniel Mason and Riley McCafferty combined for 10 points for the Monkeys. Jacob Clements had 3 assists, Reid Harrison had an outstanding game on defense with 5 steals and Jack Hannan had 7 rebounds. For the Aces, Todd Petersen had 8 points. Garrett Mandarano had 4 assists and Sean McCleary had 6 rebounds.

Aces 32, Blue 22: The Aces rebound in the second game of their double-header to best the Blues. They were led by the scoring of Todd Petersen and Michael Annesley who combined for 22 points. Thomas Luciano had 4 assists and Alec Budd had 9 rebounds. For the Blues, Vincent Genovese and Kyle Cascone each scored 6 points. Harry Lucas had 4 assists, Reed Hammond led the defense with 4 steals and Ben Nowacki had 7 rebounds.

Globetrotters 32, Mavericks 24: For the Globetrotters, John Albanesi and James Schumacher combined for 28 points. Luke Sansonetti had 5 assists, Dan Schreiber led the defense with 4 steals and Karl Kelly had 7 rebounds. The Mavericks were led by Thomas Usher and Carter McCleary, who combined for 14 points. The defense was led by Nick Accousti with 5 steals and Jack Sullivan with 7 rebounds.

Grade 5

Kia Mazda of Old Saybrooks’ Nighthawks 30, Scorpions 26: The Nighthawks and Scorpions engaged in a see-saw battle Saturday at NYA until the Nighthawks gained control late in the fourth quarter behind some clutch baskets by Travis Huzina (6 points) and Dylan Sock (18 points). Owen Sullivan forced a key turnover late in the game to secure the victory for the Nighthawks. Strong defensive efforts were put in by Kirby MacDonald and Will “Advil” Stenz for the Nighthawks. The Scorpions were led by Greg Brissette (10 points, 3 steals), Alex Street (5 points, 6 rebounds) and Mark Hall (7 points 4 steals). There were also strong performances by Wyatt Moyer, Connor DiNallo and Eric Vigneau.

 

Tornadoes 29-Black Knights 16: Displaying a tenacious, team-oriented defense, the Tornados took care of the Knights 29-16. Starting slowly, the Tornados fell behind early by a score of 4-0 but two quick baskets by Jack Bittman and Eugene Citrano at the midpoint of the first quarter tied it up. Owen Walsh scored on a slashing drive to give the Tornados their first lead of the game and they gradually began to pull away, never trailing again. The Tornados were paced by Eugene Citrano with 8 points, but had a balanced attack with Adam Wolff, Jake Pirone and Jack Bittman all contributing multiple baskets. Walsh and Tristan Crone teamed up to lead a poised and balanced backcourt effort while Wolff, Pirone and Rhett Saunders were a force in the paint.

Responding to the defensive challenge posed by the quick lineup of the Knights, Jack Buchler, Ken Malin, and Matthew Menousek were key contributors to a strong defensive effort. The Black Knights were led at the scorers table by Dylan Champagne with 7 points. Dylan also had 1 assist, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. In his first league game, John Payne earned the offensive player of the game for the Knights going 2 for 4 from the free throw line and staking his team to an early 4-0 lead. Dwyer Grimes played well, scoring 3 points and grabbing an impressive 6 rebounds. Kent Mullen played a strong defensive game, earning him the Knights’ defensive player of the game and chipped in 2 points as well. Thomas Coppinger finished the scoring with 2 points. Cameron Champagne played a very good game snagging 4 rebounds.

The Heat 35, Red Bulls 28: The Heat were hot out of the gate scoring 17 points early, led by Aiden Ford’s 13 points and James Hobar’s 8 points and 6 rebounds. Ryan Williams had a great game with 8 rebounds and 7 steals. Jimmy Doutney and Kai Toomey were outstanding on defense. The Red Bulls came charging back in the third quarter scoring 18 of their own in a group effort. Ben Harrison, Justin Woodard, and Kyle Gaynor each ended up scoring 4 points, Ryan Patrick 6 and Ethan Aug 8. Sterling Radasci played nice defensively and set up a few nice picks.

Dynamite 31, Huskies 26: An explosive game between the Dynamite and the Huskies. The Dynamite were down 26-20 with four minutes left in the game when John Finnegan, Max Goldstein and Jacob Duffy came up with some quick key steals as a result of the full court press, enabling the Dynamite to pull out the game at the end. Chris “Dogbone” Daubert and Robert Murray played excellent defense for the Dynamite. Bobby Ward and David Daria played well for the Huskies. Ward having his usual multi-steal game and 4 points with David contributing 2 field goals and 1-2 from the foul line. Andrew DeLuca and Andrew Buzzi scored often as well to keep their team in the game.

Celtics 30, Hornets 12: The brothers Harper (“Jump Shot” Josh and “Never Nervous” Nick) led the Celtics’ offense this week against the Hornets, combining for 16 points and 4 assists. The C’s defense played strong all game against their quick opponent, having many steals, forcing turnovers and diving for loose balls, and was led by Alex “Skywalker” Janiak who had 2 blocks, 3 rebounds, and forced 2 jump balls. Jackson Dooley led the Hornets with 6 points. Brian Montoya stood tall on defense with 3 blocked shots and was 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Liam Begany and Jack Carello were aggressive on both ends of the court.

Grade 6

The Hershey Kisses 39, The Blue Ninja’s 15: Steven Moccio, with 10 points and 8 steals, and William Huegi, 9 points and 5 steals, led the offensive attack. Peter DeBona was a beast all day in the paint with 9 points and 13 rebounds, and 4 steals, and Elliott Bennett chipped in with 2 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. Nick Lombardo knocked down two jump shots to add 4 points and Robert Lombardo led a spirited defensive effort with 3 steals, to go with 3 points and 3 rebounds. The Blue Ninja’s were led on offense by Matt Fuchs with 5 points, and Bryan Morrissey and Nick Lametto with 4 points each. Matt Guinee, Peter Clifford, R.H. Clark, and Matt Krasnickas led the way on defense with some big steals and key rebounds. Chad Azzarito, David Usher, and Tyler LaCroce made some clutch stops to keep the Ninjas in the game.

The Bulldogs 51, The Grasshoppers 34: The Bulldogs showed their teeth this week with an offensive blast led by Matthew Bucci with an impressive 21 points, followed by Hunter Cobb with 14, and Alex Dunleavy with 8. The defense was equally as impressive with Thomas Sanczyk, Will LeMay, and Adam Beckett hitting the boards for big rebounds and Andrew Janco, Evan Kohlsaat, and Max Ames put on the pressure and made steals when they counted. Although the final score doesn’t show it, the Grasshoppers played a great game. Outscored 23-6 in the first half they played a very good second half losing by a final score of 51-32.

Nick Venezia led all of the Grasshoppers scorers with 10 points as he was 3 for 8 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free throw line for a total of 10 points. Nick also had 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Owen McInerney played another great game scoring 9 points after shooting 4 for 8 from the floor. He also grabbed 4 rebounds. Jack Reilly made some clutch shots early to keep the Grasshoppers within striking distance earning him offensive player of the game. Jack was 4 for 8 from the field, finishing with 8 points. Ryan Norton added 5 rebounds and 3 steals, while defensive player of the game Ryan Brello led the nymphs with 6 rebounds and had 2 steals. Matt Kretz scored 3 points and snagged 4 rebounds. Patrick Godino, playing in his first game of the season had 1 rebound and 2 steals in the ‘Hoppers losing effort.

Golden Ringer 47, The Untouchables 34: The Golden Ringer’s offense was led by Henry Primavera, Austin DeSousa, and Matthew Kugler. Their defense was led by Will Whitlock, Parker Johnson, and Thomas Addessi. The Untouchables, sponsored by Sal e Pepe, high scorer was Chris Anesi (5 points), Assist leader: Ben Dieckman (5 assists), Defensive star: Dylan Lew, Rebound leader: Jordan Klein (4 rebounds).

The Mystries 33, The Untouchables 27: The Newtown Mystries offense was led by Dylan Kretz, River Low, and Jack Phelps. Their defense was led by Robert Hutchins, Mitchell Long and Cameron Mitchell. The Untouchables, sponsored by Sal e Pepe, high scorer: Austin Kasbarian (12 pts), Assist leader: Jordan Klein (6 assists), Defensive star: Ben Marini, Rebound leader: Marc LaSorsa (8 rebounds)

The Red Storm 20, Thunder 16: Red Storm battled back from being down by 8 points early to a 20-16 win. Tommy Kitzmiller led all scorers with 10 points. Joseph Palanzo led the defense with 5 blocked shots and also contributed 6 points. Jack Palermo scored 4 points and had a team high 7 rebounds. Colin Villamana hit a key jump shot and had 4 steals. Jacob Meenan also played some shut down defense and had 3 steals. The offensive attack by the Thunder sponsored by Rankin Sporting Goods was led by Graham Dowd, Zachary Anderson, and Ryan Marusi. The defense was led by Timothy Cervera, Bryce Griffin, and Eric Mockovak.

Grade 7

New Canaan 42, Newtown 36: Mason Mellilo with 10 points and Jared Pearson with 8 led Newtown in scoring. Ryan Shaw had 12 rebounds and Andrew Savanda had 6 rebounds. Devin Luzietti and Declan Sullivan played strong defense.

Newtown 51, Greenwich 46: Ryan Shaw had 13 points, Matt Gerics had 9 and Matt Elias had 7 points. A strong defense of effort was given by Jamie Cocharan and Nick Samuelson.

Danbury 41, Newtown Gold 29: Ethan Carpenter had the hot hand in leading the way with 10 points. Joe Duero added 7 and Michael Doyle 4. Tim VanderHave played strong defense.

St Mary’s 47, Newtown Gold 36: Newtown fought back from a 14-point deficit to tie the game at 36, only to see St Mary’s pull away in the closing minutes. Joe Duero and Kieran Lynch (3 steals) were high men with 6 points apiece. Matt Maturo added 5 and Colin Patrick 4. Dillon Palumbo pulled down 9 boards, Geoff Santore 8, and James Frazzetta 5. James Accousti hit a 3-pointer and had 2 steals.

Grades 7–8

Wildcats 34, Bulldogs 26: Matt Davis and Patrick Berger combined for 16 points to lead the Wildcats, with the defense being led by Kevin Finnegan and Zach Weiland. For the Bulldogs. Jon Sherman led the attack with 10 points, Jake Lambert hit the boards with 15 rebounds and the defense was led by Wiley Zahansky and Jim Payne.

Sugar Hill Auto Body Huskies 47, Dr Curtis Beck Patriots 29: The Huskies had tight defense led by Cole Siksay, Daniel McCarthy, and Tommy Elliot. The offense was paced by Austin Huffman with a career high 20 points and Charlie Huegie with 12. For the Patriots, Alex Klang and Mark Dowling combined for 8 points.

Bricklayers 45, Rankin Sports Vipers 37: For the Bricklayers Connor Miller led the way with 14 points. Christian Thonaseulis had 5 assists and Zach Amueller had 7 rebounds. Stephen Grasso led the Vipers with 13 points along with Dylan Tyrell and Colton Maroney combining for 15.

Bearcats 35, Magic 34: Nick Roche led the offense for the Bearcats with 16 points. Ryan Sullivan hit a 3 pointer with 3 seconds left to get the win. Good defensive effort by Michael Unschuld, Bobby Silver, and Sean Dalton. For the Magic the offense was paced by Keaton McCleary with 15 points.

Walri 48, Newtown Deli & Catering/Celtics 20: Colin Reilly led the Walri with 19 points with Adam Weber, Luke Rustici and Andrew Pfeiffer combining for 17 points. For the Celtics, Will Swain and Adam Israel combined for 10 points and Jack Proccacini had 12 rebounds.

Razorbacks 34, Knicks 33: Harry Depuy led the way for the Razorbacks with 21 points. Tommy Shaker and Jeri Draper played a great game. For the Knicks, Nick Lotrecchiano led with 15 points, with tight defense by Shane Quimby, Andrew Ross, and Aidan Petershack.

Lydon Appraisals Raptors 51, Wolfpack 17: The Raptors were led by Bobby Lydon with 22 points. Jason Ferrari, Sean McCafferty, and Jimmy Buck played tight defense. For the Wolpack, Jake Oliger had 7 points. Ryan King, Daniel Colucci, and Markus Wessel played well.

Thunder 34, Taunton Hill Landscaping/Wolverines 32: Sam Czel paced the Thunder with 11 points while Mike Cirone and Jaret DeVillis added 8. For the Wolverines, Bobby Archiere had 14 points. Liam Palilla and Drew Palilla played good defense.
