St Rose Science Horizon Winners
In last monthâs Science Horizons science fair held at Western Connecticut State University, multiple St Rose of Lima School students were recognized for their worked entered into the fair.
As The Bee reported last week, St Rose of Lima School seventh grade student Grace Herrick won first place in the junior physical science competition for a project that had her test for caffeine in water at the Newtown wastewater treatment plant.
Other winners from the school were eighth grade students Marina Renzi and Katerina Ringes, who took home the first place in the junior biological team category for their project, âThe Effect of Electromagnetic Fields on Scenedesmus Algae Cells.â
Another St Rose team took fourth place in the junior biological team category. Seventh gradeers Lauren Cirone and Anna Brubaker studied the effort of âpH levels on polluted fresh water and elodea life span.â
Also in the junior physical category with Grace, Dominic Pagliaro, an eighth grader, took second with his âTower Powerâ project. And Ashley Wagnblas, a seventh grade student, took third place in the category for her project called âRush Hour.â
In the United States Navy/United States Marine Corps Excellence in Science and Engineering category, Alan DePinto and Bobby Haskins were named as winners.
The category winners from St Rose of Lima and the students who won from Newtown Middle School, which were reported in last weekâs edition of The Bee, will go on to participate in the Connecticut Science Fair, to be held at Quinnipiac University March 13 through 17.
