The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will welcome a local artist as its next guest during an artist demonstration program in May. The local artists’ collective will also present a special fundraiser, with proceeds from the sales of original art to benefit a not-for-profit group feeding those along the Ukraine-Poland border.

Anda Styler of Sandy Hook will present an art demonstration/critique entitled “How to Transform Your Painting Using Acetate” on Wednesday, May 11, at 5 pm, at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street. The program is free and open to the public.

Those planning to attend should note the early start time and temporary location of the program.

Styler paints in both acrylic and oil. She studied at Parsons School of Design in NYC, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. She has won numerous awards for her work and has had many accomplishments in the art world, including interviews with both local and national publications such as American Art Collector, Who’s Who in America, Country Gardeners Magazine, and Victoria Magazine.

In addition, Styler’s work was published in Best of American Acrylic Painters 2012 (Kennedy Publishing), and four large paintings of hers were commissioned and placed in the permanent collection of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Styler is particularly drawn to the magic of the Litchfield hills and the New England landscape. Her ability to capture the light in a landscape through bold color, realism, and her considerable imagination brings her pictures to life.

Fundraiser For Ukraine

Later in the month, SCAN will be sponsoring a fundraiser for the people of Ukraine on Friday, May 27, from 10 am until 7 pm; and Saturday, May 28, from 5 to 6 pm, at the Art & Frame Gallery, 77 Main Street.

(SCAN is currently presenting its 50th Juried Spring Show, featuring works by members, through May 26.)

The public is invited to buy original fine artwork, the proceeds of which will go to World Central Kitchen (WCK), a non-profit organization that is actively providing meals to the displaced from the Ukraine War.

There will be a reception on Friday from 5 to 7 pm, to which the public is also invited.

SCAN members and nonmembers are invited to donate original art. Paintings, drawings, giclee prints, portfolios, collages (framed or unframed), and sculpture, to sell at the event, will all be accepted.

Artwork donations drop-off will take place on Thursday, May 26, at 4 pm. All proceeds from sales will be donated to World Central Kitchen. Forms (including tax ID number) to accompany donations will be available during drop-off.
