The Friends of Edmond Town Hall (FOETH) presented live music by The Argyle Saxophone Quartet on the stage of the Alexandria Room on April 10.

Julie Brunelle, co-chair of FOETH, welcomed everyone who spent part of their afternoon at Edmond Town Hall for the concert, which had proceeds going to support FOETH.

“We are an organization that works to bring live events here and to help maintain and restore this beautiful building,” she said.

The nonprofit group was previously known as the Mary Hawley Society; Edmond Town Hall was a gift from Newtown benefactress Mary Hawley.

The Argyle Saxophone Quartet featured longtime friends and bandmates Julia Gerace, Donna Schmardle, Rick Myers, and David Glassman.

They performed a variety of songs from different genres, including American Feeling by Italian composer Ilio Volante and William Christopher Handy’s 1914 song “St Louis Blues,” arranged by Bill Holcombe.

Upcoming Event

In honor of Earth Day, FOETH will be hosting a free screening of The Biggest Little Farm along with a panel discussion on Sunday, April 24, at 2 pm. The event will again be in the Alexandria Room of Edmond Town Hall.

According to a press release from FOETH, “The Biggest Little Farm chronicles the eight-year quest of John and Molly Chester as they trade city living for 200 acres of barren farmland and a dream to harvest in harmony with nature. Through dogged perseverance and embracing the opportunity provided by nature’s conflicts, the Chesters unlock and uncover a biodiverse design for living that exists far beyond their farm, its seasons, and our wildest imagination. Featuring breathtaking cinematography, captivating animals, and an urgent message to heed Mother Nature’s call, The Biggest Little Farm provides us all a vital blueprint for better living and a healthier planet.”

The panel will include representatives from Appleberry Farm, BD Provisions, Gardenfolk LLC, Hannah’s Honey, Newtown Forest Association, Real Food CT (formerly known as Real Food Share), and Why Not Farm.

There is no charge for the event, but registration is requested and can be done at signupgenius.com.
