Eugenia “Jean” Fagan DeBartolomeo of Stamford, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died October 29, surrounded by her family.  She was born to Edward and Mary Phelan Fagan, in Newport, R.I. 

In addition to her husband, Paul, her children and their spouses,  Kevin and  Stephanie DeBartolomeo, and Paul J. and Kim DeBartolomeo, all of Newtown, Paula and Bill Napoletano and Maureen and Barry McLaughlin, survive Ms DeBartolomeo. A loving and generous woman, “Grandmom” adored her nine grandchildren, Catherine, Elizabeth, Michele, Gabrielle, Christina, Michael, Daniel, Nicole, and Anthony, and shared in many of their activities. Her son, Lt jg Michael DeBartolomeo; her parents; and her sister, Rosemary Fagan, predeceased her.

Ms DeBartolomeo grew up in Newport with her sisters, Marguerite and Rosemary, and numerous Phelan cousins. She graduated high school from Convent of the Sacred Heart, Fall River, Mass. Ms DeBartolomeo began her lifelong passion when she started training at St Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing, in Boston. Her 51-year professional career included New England Medical Center in Boston, St Joseph Hospital, and The City of Stamford, where she was known as a nurse, friend, and counselor.

She married her best friend, Paul, November 2, 1958, and together they raised their five children in a home filled with love, laughter, and happiness. Family was the center of her universe, as she had a way of making each one of her children feel special.

Her passion for life will be remembered by all those who shared in her delicious Irish soda bread, were warmed by hand-knitted creations, were comforted by her words, notes, and smiling Jesus prayer cards, and above all, were inspired by her deep faith in God.

A celebration of Ms DeBartolomeo's life took place November 3. Burial was at St John Roman Catholic Cemetery in Darien.
