Incident In Intersection
Newtown Police report Glenn Schietinger, 51, of Newtown, operating a 2020 GMC Sierra K1500, was traveling west on Laurel Road at 12:22 pm March 26, as Michael McAndrews, 59, of Trumbull, operating a 2011 Subaru Outback, was traveling northbound on South Main Street.
Schietinger proceeded partially into the intersection of Laurel Road and South Main Street to turn left and made contact with the passenger’s side of McAndrews’ vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Schietinger received a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.
Lane Change Collision
Newtown Police report Barbara Hickey, 79, of Bethel, operating a 2021 Kia Forte, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road in the through traffic lane at 11:03 am March 30. Alexandra Scharr, 26, of New Fairfield, operating a 2014 Toyota Prius, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road in the left turn only lane. Hickey made a lane change and entered into the left turn only lane, and the front left corner of her vehicle struck the right rear side of Scharr’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Hickey was issued a written warning for making an restricted turn.
Arrested For Burglary
Newtown Police report James Aspinwall, 45, of Seymour, was arrested by warrant March 30 on the charges of third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass, first-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny.
The arrest warrant, issued by Danbury Superior Court, stemmed from a commercial burglary that occurred during the overnight hours of October 28, 2021, and was investigated by the midnight shift of Newtown Police Patrol Division. Following a review of numerous surveillance videos and recognizing the suspect in intelligence reports from other police agencies, officers applied for a warrant and were granted it.
Aspinwall was transferred to the custody of Danbury Superior Court for arraignment.
Went Off Curve, Hit Tree
Newtown Police report Katherine Joy, 54, of Torrington, operating a 2004 Subaru Forrester, was traveling northbound on Brushy Hill Road at 12:17 am April 2.
While negotiating a curve, Joy’s vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway and the front end of the vehicle collided with a tree.
Joy was transported to Danbury Hospital for evaluation. The vehicle was towed.
Joy was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.
Pulled Out In Front
Newtown Police report Michael Tesla, 31, of Newtown, operating a 2007 Buick Lacrosse, was exiting the west exit of 57 Dodgingtown Road at 2:20 pm April 4. Chardae Genus, 36, of Bridgeport, operating a 2016 Honda CR-V, was traveling eastbound on Dodgingtown Road. According to the report, Tesla pulled out in front of Genus’ vehicle, causing a collision.
Genus’ vehicle was towed. Genus was transported to Danbury Hospital for evaluation.
No charges are mentioned in the report.
Following Too Closely
Newtown Police report Taishka Addison, 46, of Naugatuck, operating a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, was traveling northbound on Nunnawauk Road at 3:20 pm April 4. Addison was traveling behind a 2011 Honda CR-V operated by William Kompare, 70, of Waterbury. Both vehicles stopped at the intersection of Wasserman Way. The front of Addison’s vehicle then made contact with the rear of Kompare’s vehicle, causing minor damage to both vehicles.
No injuries were reported.
Addison was issued a verbal warning for following too closely resulting in a motor vehicle accident.
