Struck Trailer

Newtown Police report Alexandre Manzuarte, 32, of Danbury, operating a 2013 Dodge Charger, was turning northbound onto Hawleyville Road from Mt Pleasant Road at 10:45 pm, March 10. Manzuarte crossed into the southbound lane and hit a trailer being towed by a 2008 Ford F150 operated by Fiodar Kachanau, 39, of Fenwick Island, Del.

No injuries were reported.

Manzuarte was issued an infraction for failure to keep right on a curve and a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Vehicle Sought In Parking Lot Hit And Run

Newtown Police report a 2017 Nissan Maxima owned by Fabio Rodrigues-Alves of Southbury was hit in the parking lot of 46 Barnabas Road sometime between the dates of March 12 and 15. The second vehicle fled the area.

Collision At Intersection

Newtown Police report Troy Elliott, 52, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu LS, was traveling eastbound on Sherman Street at 5:17 am March 16. Marco Guachun, 49, of Danbury, operating a 2004 Acura TI, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road. Elliott came to a stop at the intersection with Berkshire Road, then attempted to make a left turn onto Berkshire Road, striking Guachun’s vehicle in the process.

No injuries were reported.

Elliot was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Fender Bender In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report David Lato-Jensen, 22, of Newtown, operating a 2008 Volkswagen Passat, was attempting to park in a private parking lot at 67 Church Hill Road at 12:17 pm March 16. While parking, the left corner of his vehicle made contact with the right rear side of a 2009 Infiniti G37 AWD owned by Sadek Sarwar, 32, of Bridgeport.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Deer Causes Three Car Accident

Newtown Police report Andrew Ellis, 47, of Brookfield, operating a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 6:48 am March 18. Nicholas Musto, 29, of Danbury, operating a 2010 Subaru Legacy, was stopped in the southbound lane waiting to make a left turn into the driveway of 201 South Main Street. Jacquelyn Budlowski, 28, of Shelton, operating a 2019 BMW X5 Xdrive40i, was traveling northbound on South Main Street.

Ellis said a deer ran into the roadway from the right shoulder and he reflexively swerved to the left to avoid it. Ellis’s vehicle struck Musto’s vehicle from behind and then rolled over twice on the southbound shoulder. Musto’s vehicle was pushed into the path of Budlowski’s vehicle, causing a front-to-front impact.

All vehicles involved were towed. Musto was treated for a possible injury. No charges were mentioned in the report.

Hit School Bus

Newtown Police report Robert Singer, 72, of Newtown, operating a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado, was parked in the parking area south of Kay Lane at 12:06 pm March 18. Singer backed out of his spot and struck the front of a 2018 Blue Bird School Bus operated by Nichole Nicholson, 48, of Newtown, that was stopped on Kay Lane near the intersection of South Main Street.

No injuries were reported.

Singer was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way.

Unsafe Movement

Newtown Police report Romona Sharma, 40, of Waterbury, operating a 2015 Honda Odyssey, was stopped on the right shoulder of Jeremiah Road, facing westbound, at 7:13 pm March 19. Zachary Lehecka, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2001 Honda Accord EX, was traveling westbound on Jeremiah Road. Lehecka was passing Sharma’s vehicle when it abruptly entered the westbound traffic lane. The driver’s side of Sharma’s vehicle struck the passenger’s side of Lehecka’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Sharma was given a verbal warning for unsafe movement.

Failure To Appear

Newtown Police report Louise Aviles, 23, of Bridgeport, was arrested at 11:29 pm March 21 on the charge of second-degree failure to appear. She was released on a $10,000 bond with a court date of April 7.

Gold Bracelet Found

Newtown Police report that on March 22, a resident turned in a gold bracelet that was found on March 18 on the Fairfield Hills walking trail. The owner may contact Newtown Police Department to claim their property.
