Vehicle Hit After Crash
Newtown Police report Jessica Garcia, 33, of Danbury, operating a 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 12:48 am February 12. Lee Vaniderstine, 60, of Shelton, operating a 2009 Toyota Tacoma, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road behind Garcia. Police say Garcia’s vehicle left the roadway and struck an embankment, causing it to roll and come to rest in the middle of the roadway, perpendicular to the double yellow lines. Vaniderstine’s vehicle struck Garcia’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.
No charges were mentioned in the report.
Lost Control In Snow
Newtown Police report Kristen Colasanto, 39, of Monroe, operating a 2018 Subaru Impreza Premium, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at 7:44 am February 13. Peterson Jacot, 41, of Meriden, operating a 2011 Lexus GS 350 AWD, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way. Police say Colasanto lost control of her vehicle while traveling downhill due to the roadway being covered in snow and crossed the yellow lines into the westbound lane. The front left bumper of Colasanto’s vehicle struck the front driver’s side door and rear diver’s side door of Jacot’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Colasanto was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Pulled Over, Then Hit
Newtown Police report Keith Jackson, 47, of Bethel, operating a 2018 Kia Sedona LX, was traveling eastbound on Sugar Street at 1:01 pm February 14. Dodon Desouza, 48, of Danbury, operating a 2015 Toyota Rav4 XLE, was traveling eastbound on Sugar Street ahead of Jackson and pulled over and parked off the travel portion of the roadway on the eastbound shoulder.
When Jackson passed Desouza’s vehicle, the passenger’s side mirror of his vehicle made contact with the driver’s side mirror of Desouza’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Jackson was issued a verbal warning for failing to drive in an established lane.
Restricted Turn
Newtown Police report Shiran Nicholson, 47, of Easton, operating a 2021 Tesla Model Y, was traveling southbound on South Main Street in the area of Ethan Allen Road at 8:33 am February 16. Stephen McNamara, 54, of Milford, operating a 2018 GMC Sierra C1500, was traveling northbound on South Main Street.
Nicholson’s vehicle traveled off the southbound shoulder, entered the roadway again and struck the rear driver’s side of McNamara’s vehicle. Nicholson’s vehicle then crossed over the roadway, traveled off the northbound shoulder and struck a fabric fence.
No injuries were reported.
Nicholson was given an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Left Turn Collision
Newtown Police report Abigail Arendt, 19, of Bridgeport, operating a 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i, was attempting to turn left out of 99 South Main Street at 7:22 pm February 16. Hans Probst, 47, of New Milford, operating a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan, was traveling northbound on South Main Street. William Andrews, 36, of Shelton, was stopped in traffic in the southbound lane of South Main Street.
Arendt turned left in front of Probst’s vehicle, and the front of Probst’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of Arendt’s vehicle. Arendt’s vehicle spun and the rear bumper struck the front bumper of Andrew’s vehicle before stopping, in the southbound lane facing east.
The report states Probst was possibly injured but makes no mention if he was treated. Both Arendt’s and Probst’s vehicles were towed.
Arendt was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a private road or driveway.
Struck Vehicle While Passing
Newtown Police report Ronald Gregory, 58, of Danbury, operating a 1996 Peterbilt Conventional 330, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way in the straight lane at 2:11 pm February 18. Atessa Helm, 59, of Kent, operating a 2009 Honda CR-V EX, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way and came to a stop in the westbound turn lane for traffic waiting at the red light at the intersection with Interstate 84’s exit 11 on/off ramps.
When Gregory passed Helm’s vehicle, a bracket on the left side of Gregory’s vehicle made contact with the right rear fender of Helm’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Gregory was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive in an established lane. Helm was issued a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Snow Squall Causes Collision
Newtown Police report Matthew Lugo, 38, of Trumbull, operating a 1998 Mazda B3000, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 3:35 pm February 19. He was traveling behind a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Arton Redzepi, 19, of Sandy Hook. Police say Redzepi slowed to a stop due to a sudden white-out snow squall. Due to low visibility and slippery road conditions, Lugo was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision, and the front end of his vehicle struck the rear end of Redzepi’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. No enforcement action was taken.
Vehicle Sought For Evading
Newtown Police report that Darwin Salazar-Garces, 36, of Danbury, operating a 2004 Honda Accord EX, was traveling north on Route 25 at 3:38 pm, February 19. An unidentified vehicle left a driveway and struck the driver’s side of Salazar-Garces’ vehicle, pushing it off the roadway. The vehicle then left the area, evading responsibility.
The unidentified vehicle is described as a “small, grey SUV” and should have passenger side damage to both the front and side.
No injuries were reported.
Skidded Into Tree
Newtown Police report Kevin Davis, 37, of Trumbull, operating a 2016 Ford F150, was traveling east on Turkey Hill Road at 3:38 pm February 19. When Davis applied the brakes for stopped traffic ahead, police say his vehicle lost traction, skidded off the roadway to the right, striking a tree.
No injuries were reported.
Davis was given a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Arrest For Assault
Newtown Police report Joseph DeLuca, 47, of Newtown, was arrested at 11:39 pm, February 19, on the charges of first-degree violation of conditions of release, disorderly conduct, and third-degree assault. He was released on a $10,000 bond with a court date of February 22 in Danbury Court.
Grinded Along Guardrail
Newtown Police report Mega Perry, 52, of Bridgeport, operating a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 LT, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road and negotiating a left hand curve at 7:02 am February 21. While negotiating the curve, police said Perry’s vehicle went off the roadway to the right and struck a ramped guardrail end, traveling along the top of the guardrail approximately 16 feet before striking a tree.
No injuries were reported. No charges were mentioned in the report.
