Congregation Adath Israel of Newtown’s Share and Care Committee is promoting a “Share the Love” campaign to support The Dorothy Day Hospitality Center in Danbury.

Newtown residents and those of the surrounding communities are invited to donate a wide array of personal care, clothing and household items on Sunday, February 13. The event will be a drive-up held in the Adath Israel parking lot, 115 Huntingtown Road, from 10 am until noon.

Committee members will collect donations from participant’s cars to adhere to COVID-19 safety measures.

Items Needed

Organizers are looking for the following items:

*Heavy duty pot holders, washcloths, dish towels and umbrellas;

*Personal care items including disposable razors and shaving cream;

*Men’s new and/or gently used clothing including warm winter gloves (please no Dollar Store gloves), jeans, new work boots, sweatpants, sweatshirts/hoodies, shirts, non-winter jackets, footwear, and new underwear; and

*Women: warm winter gloves (please no Dollar Store gloves) and new underwear.

The collection follows the synagogue’s successful 2021 Fall Food Drive and 2021 February Food and Coat Drive. The Care and Share Committee has been hosting a couple of these charitable drives a year.

Sue Morse, Share and Care Committee leader, commented: “We are pleased to continue to help area food pantries and shelters that support those individuals in need. By partnering with these organizations, we demonstrate Adath Israel’s commitment to Tikkun Olam, a Jewish concept that encourages acts of kindness to better our communities and the world we live in.”
