Car Flipped And Hit Pole

Newtown Police report Edwin Vega, 29, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Honda Civic, was traveling northbound on High Rock Road at 7:58 pm January 12. Vega’s vehicle crossed the center lane and flipped onto its left side, then hit a telephone pole, causing it to snap.

No injuries were reported.

Vega was given an infraction for failure to drive right.

Struck Pole, Mailboxes

Newtown Police report Matthew Bevans, 39, of Shelton, operating a 2018 Nissan Rogue SV, was traveling westbound on Dodgingtown Road at 6:43 am January 14. Bevans ran off the roadway to the right, and his vehicle struck a utility pole, three mailboxes, then re-entered the roadway and crossed over both lanes. There it struck a fence on the side of the road and came to rest facing eastbound on the eastbound side of the road.

Bevans said that while traveling on the road a deer entered the roadway and he swerved to avoid hitting the deer, but slid on some ice on the shoulder.

Bevans was transported to Danbury Hospital by ambulance for further evaluation. His vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

No charges were mentioned in the report.

Slid Into Snowbank

Newtown Police report Kyra Alvarez, 22, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Kia Forte LX, was traveling northbound on Huntingtown Road at 8:54 am January 20. Police said Alvarez initiated a right turn onto Meadowbrook Road and her vehicle slid on the snow-covered roadway. Alvarez’s vehicle then skidded off the travel portion of the roadway, striking a snow bank and coming to a stop off the roadway in the northeast corner of the intersection.

No injuries were reported.

Alvarez was given a verbal warning for failure to drive right.

Off Curve Into Sign

Newtown Police report Vincent Genovese, 20, of Newtown, operating a 2006 Toyota Tundra, was traveling southbound on Edmond Road at 9:54 am January 20. Genovese was negotiating a curve in the snow and his vehicle went straight on to the curb and struck a stop sign. Genovese’s vehicle continued straight and the front driver’s side struck the face of a guardrail.

No injuries were reported.

Genovese was given a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hit Guardrail Poles

Newtown Police report Noah Hughes, 28, of Bridgeport, operating a 2007 Kia Spectra, was traveling northbound on Hattertown Road at 10:17 am January 20. Hughes was negotiating a curve in the roadway but due to snow covering, his vehicle traveled off the northbound shoulder, hitting two wooden guardrail poles.

No injuries were reported.

Hughes was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hit Stone Wall, Tree

Newtown Police report Lucas Pereira, 19, of Brookfield, operating a 2016 BMW X5 XDrive, was traveling westbound on Obtuse Road at 11:16 am January 20. While negotiating a snow-covered curve in the roadway, Pereira’s vehicle traveled off the westbound shoulder, striking a stone wall. Pereira’s vehicle then struck a tree, rolled over once, and came to rest upright.

Pereira was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries.

Pereira was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Right Of Way Warning

Newtown Police report Raymond Larking, 71, of Newtown, operating a 2008 Honda Civic LX, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 4:19 pm January 21. While attempting to turn left onto Country Club Road, his vehicle struck a 2020 Kia Optima LX operated by Nicole Giannetta, 38, of Branford, who was traveling southbound on South Main Street.

No injuries were reported.

Larking was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way to oncoming traffic while turning left. Giannetta was issued a verbal warning for failure to renew driver’s license.
