The first meeting of the new year for The Genealogy Club of Newtown is scheduled for Wednesday, January 12, at 7 pm, via Zoom. It will feature a free presentation about “Organizing Genealogical Data, Documents, and Photos” by club chair Toni McKeen of Ridgefield.

One of the first issues a new genealogy enthusiast encounters is what to do with all their wonderful research finds. How do you keep track of the data, documents, and photos you now have for all your ancestors?

McKeen’s talk will cover sorting information, using electronic programs to record dates and facts in one place, organizing family records in loose leaf books so that each family in each generation is easy to locate, and what to keep for each generation.

McKeen will also cover how to organize and store documents for each person being researched, and how to keep, organize, and back up photos. She will also touch on the basic supplies needed to have on hand while doing research.

Toni McKeen has been the club chair for two years. She has many years of experience teaching genealogy classes at Founders’ Hall in Ridgefield, speaking to many genealogy clubs and societies in the area, and doing Zoom programs for libraries.

Meetings of The Genealogy Club of Newtown are open to all who are interested. They are cosponsored by C.H.Booth Library.

Club members will receive an e-mail invitation to join the Zoom meeting. Non-members who want to attend are invited to send an e-mail including their name, address, and phone number to genclubnewtownct.secretary@gmail.com, to request a program link. Requests should be sent by January 10 at the latest.

Those planning to attend are asked to sign in at 6:45 pm so that all are admitted before the meeting and program begin promptly at 7 pm.
