Rodrigue To Retire At End Of School Year
Superintendent of Schools Dr Lorrie Rodrigue announced to the community in a letter on December 20 that she will retire at the end of the school year.
According to the letter — addressed to staff, parents, and community members — Rodrigue explained she spoke with the Board of Education in October.
"Although it was a difficult decision, on December 15, I made it official and notified the board of my intention to retire as of June 30, 2022. The timing of my announcement will allow the board time to plan for and conduct a search following the holidays," the letter reads.
The letter continued to highlight her time in the school district, starting in the early 1990s, when she, "was attracted to the Newtown district as it maintained a genuine investment in the academic and social-emotional wellbeing of its students."
Rodrigue also thanked members of the Board of Education and the entire community for supporting the district's core beliefs and vision for, "safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all."
"I have no doubt that with an exceptional team of teachers, staff, and leaders, Newtown Public Schools is poised to remain on a positive path," the letter reads.
More on the news will be in the December 30, 2020, print edition of The Newtown Bee.
