Jumped The Gun
Newtown Police report Gregory Diaz, 29, of Grosvenordale, operating a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Sport, was stopped behind a 2015 Lexus RX 350 operated by Lynn Young, 65, of Sandy Hook, at the traffic light at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road at 3:06 pm November 20. Both vehicles were waiting to turn right. The right turn arrow turned green and Diaz’s vehicle started to move before Young’s vehicle started to go. The front bumper of Diaz’s vehicle made contact with the rear end of Young’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Diaz was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.
Lost Control, Landed On Stone Wall
Newtown Police report Ecclesias Desiral, 36, of Derby, operating a 2006 Acura 3.2 TL, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 3:30 am November 25. Desiral’s vehicle swerved into the westbound lane of travel and exited the westbound shoulder of the roadway. His vehicle struck and landed on a stone wall before coming to a stop.
No injuries were reported. Desiral’s vehicle was towed by Modzelewski’s for disabling damage.
Desiral was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain a proper lane.
Ran Into Treeline
Newtown Police report Steven Jarvis, 63, of Newtown, operating a 2005 Saturn Ion Level 3, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road at 6:14 pm November 24. Jarvis lost control of his vehicle in the area of Currituck Road, ran off the roadway on the left and crashed into the treeline.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed by Modzelewski’s for disabling damage.
Jarvis was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.
Two Stops Don’t Make A Go
Newtown Police report Kurt Dubay, 46, of Monroe, operating a 2020 Toyota Camry LE was traveling southbound on Queen Street and came to a stop at a stop sign at 5:14 pm November 29. Tara Dore, 43, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Cadillac, was previously stopped at the stop sign on Queen Street facing south, but then turned onto Mile Hill Road and stopped to take an immediate left onto Tinkerfield Road. Dubay’s vehicle turned right onto Mile Hill Road and the front of his vehicle struck the rear of Dore’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Dubay was given a verbal warning for following too closely resulting in an accident.
Struck Trailer
Newtown Police report Adam Hiltz, 35, of Prospect, operating a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox LT, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 10:12 am December 1. A 2013 Ford F150 towing a trailer with a 2018 GMC Acadia on it was stopped for a red light in the westbound travel lane of Church Hill Road at the intersection of Commerce Road.
The front of Hiltz’s vehicle struck the trailer, doing damage to the trailer and the GMC Acadia.
No injuries were reported. Hiltz was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.
Pulled Out Too Soon
Newtown Police report Anna Hanson, 27, of Shelton, operating a 2021 Honda Pilot EX, was stopped at the stop sign at Jordan Hill Road, waiting to turn left onto Berkshire Road. Brian Zolotorofe, 30, of Brookfield, operating a 2017 Volkswagon Jetta S, was traveling on Berkshire Road. As Zolotorofe approached the intersection with Jordan Hill Road, Hanson’s vehicle pulled out in front of his vehicle, and the front end of Hanson’s vehicle struck the front end of Zolotorofe’s vehicle, causing damage to both.
A passenger in Hanson’s vehicle was transported to an area hospital for injuries. Both vehicles were towed to Sunoco.
Hanson was issued a warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Reverse Direction Crash
Newtown Police report Clayton Makuch, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Chevrolet Express G2500, was on Grays Plain Road, stopped at the intersection with Berkshire Road. Jennifer Baumann, 22, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Mazda CX-5 Sport, was stopped behind Makuch’s vehicle.
Makuch reportedly started entering the intersection when he saw other cars were coming, and decided to back his vehicle up to get out of the roadway. But Baumann’s vehicle was right behind it. Baumann’s vehicle suffered minor damage to the front end in the collision.
No injuries were reported. Makuch was given a warning for improper backing.
Backed Into Vehicle While Parking
Newtown Police report Jake Hockley, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Mazda CX-9 AWD, was backing into a parking space in the Newtown High School Senior parking lot at 2:45 pm December 1. A 2019 Chevrolet Trax LS owned by Jeanine Parson was parked unoccupied in the space to the right of the space Hockley was backing into. The passenger side rear bumper of Hockley’s vehicle struck the driver’s side front bumper of Parson’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. No enforcement action was taken.
Collision With Rock
Newtown Police report Michael Panattieri, 26, of Danbury, operating a 1997 Ford F250, was traveling northbound on Pine Tree Hill Road at 4:19 pm December 1. Panattieri’s vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, went up an embankment and struck a rock. The vehicle flipped onto its driver’s side and slid to the left side of the roadway.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to Sunoco.
Panattieri was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Alleged Hit-And-Run Driver Apprehended
Newtown Police report that on December 1, Sazo Ajdinoski, 49, of Brookfield, turned himself in to the Newtown Police Department after learning of an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Police said that Ajdinoski was involved in an accident on Church Hill Road on October 2 in which he made an improper turn and collided with a bicyclist, causing severe injury to the bicyclist.
Ajdinoski was charged with an improper turn, evading responsibility for serious physical injury, and interfering with a police officer.
He was released on a $500 bond with a court date of December 15.
Hit Vehicle Entering Intersection
Newtown Police report George Strong, 76, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Subaru Forester, was traveling eastbound on Blue Spruce Drive and stopped at the stop sign at South Main Street at 4:48 pm December 1. Olivia Ramos, 20, of Trumbull, operating a 2016 Kia Sedona EX, was traveling south on South Main Street. Strong’s vehicle entered the roadway, turning left onto South Main Street, striking the right side of Ramos’ vehicle with his front bumper.
Ramos’ vehicle continued across the roadway, crossing the northbound traffic lane, going off the roadway on the northbound side and striking a mailbox before coming to rest.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed by NJK Automotive.
Breach Of Peace
Newtown Police report Reeann Inderdohnen, 45, of Monroe, was arrested at 8:30 pm December 2 on the charges of second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest. She was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of December 16.
Rear-Ended On Church Hill Road
Newtown Police report Wayne Lake, 44, of Beacon Falls, operating a 2017 Ford Mustang, was traveling west on Church Hill Road behind a 2019 Toyota Sienna SE operated by Carrie Lucas, 39, of Southbury, at 12:40 pm December 3. Lucas’ vehicle stopped for traffic ahead. Lake failed to stop in time and the front of his vehicle made contact with the rear bumper of Lucas’ vehicle.
Lucas complained of neck pain but was not transported by hospital.
Lake was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Erratic Driver Was DUI
Newtown Police report that at 2:13 pm December 3, police officers responded to the area of Barnabas Road for reports of an erratic driver in the area. Following a brief investigation identifying the vehicle and operator, Pater Kennedy, 40, of Newtown, was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Kennedy was released on a $500 non-surety bond with a court date of December 16.
Rear Ended At Red Light
Newtown Police report Alcilito Dagraca, 33, of Bridgeport, operating a 2010 Mitsubishi Galant F, was traveling north on South Main Street behind a 2019 Subaru Impreza operated by Gilbert Mendoza, 57, of New York, N.Y., at 12:31 pm December 4. Mendoza’s vehicle stopped at a red light in the left lane to continue straight at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road. Dagraca’s vehicle did not stop in time, striking the rear bumper of Mendoza’s vehicle with the front bumper of his vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Dagraca was issued a written warning for failure to keep a reasonable distance resulting in a crash.
Arrested For Driving Under The Influence
Newtown Police report James Keniston, 56, of Monroe, was arrested at 6:03 pm December 6 on the charge of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. No court date was given.
Failure To Appear
Newtown Police report David Sciaudone, 51, of Sandy Hook was arrested at 12:10 pm December 7 on the charge of second-degree failure to appear. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of December 21.
Lost Ring
Newtown Police report that a female-sized ring was turned in to the department on December 7. The ring was found outside the Blue Nail Spa and Salon, 71 South Main Street. Anyone missing a ring can come to the Newtown Police Department and provide a description of the ring to have it returned.
