Garner Inmate Charged With
Four Assaults
State police arrested a Garner Correctional Institution inmate on multiple criminal charges on July 26 after he allegedly threw urine onto two correction officers and spit onto two other correction officers.
State police said they arrested inmate Jerome Riddick, 25, on four counts of assault on a public safety officer, and also on charges of interfering with an officer and failure to submit to fingerprinting.
About 5 pm on July 26, state police received a call from the high-security prison on Nunnawauk Road stating that Riddick had thrown urine onto two officers and had spit onto two others. The male victims ranged in age from 33 to 51.
During their investigation, Riddick refused to provide a sworn written statement on the incident and refused to be fingerprinted, state police said.
Riddick was arraigned on the charges on July 27 in Danbury Superior Court. Riddick did not plead to the charges. He is scheduled to return to court on August 4.
Also, on June 22, state police had arrested Riddick on charges of assault on a public safety officer and failure to submit to fingerprinting in connection with a separate Garner incident. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges and is awaiting trial.
Riddick is serving a seven-year sentence in Garner on a drug sales conviction.  Â
