To the Editor:

Winter is fast approaching. You can see it in the color of the leaves. You can feel it when you step outside in the morning. And, as of last Saturday, you can tell just by looking at our Main Street flagpole.

I would like to publicly thank members of the Newtown Lions Club and volunteers with Newtown Hook & Ladder for their help in taking down the large summer flag and raising the new smaller winter flag that now waves over the Borough. We got the job done quickly early Saturday morning thanks to everyone’s teamwork.

The winter flag, which measures 12 by 18 feet, was generously purchased by Mike Sorrentino, owner of Newtown Hardware. It will remain a top the flagpole until mid-May, when a new 20-by-30-foot flag donated by the Lions Club will replace it.

My thanks again to the many businesses, community groups, and people who donated to have the flagpole painted in the spring. Donations are always being accepted by the Town of Newtown Flagpole Fund if you are so inclined to help.

Sincerely,

Chris Gardner — Keeper of the Flag

Newtown
