‘Death And Funerals In Colonial New England’ At Historical Society Open House
For its next open house, Newtown Historical Society will host “Death and Funerals in New England.”
The public is invited to visit The Matthew Curtiss House, 44 Main Street, on Sunday, October 24, between noon and 4 pm.
Visitors will learn about common practices used during death in Colonial America. They will be invited to the historic home and see what death may have looked like back when that house was constructed.
There will also be discussion comparing facts and differences in the culture known today, versus what New Englanders believed then. Guests will additionally hear about some locals who were deemed vampires, witches, and ghouls.
Admission is free, with donations welcomed.
All tours will be self-guided. Any individuals not vaccinated against COVID-19 will be expected to wear a facemask at all times. Masks will be available at the front door for anyone who forgets to bring one.
