Subaru Hits Pole

Police report that motorist John McDermott, 24, of Bethel was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester station wagon northward near 31 Mt Pleasant Road about 12:13 am on February 27, while it was snowing and the roadway was covered with snow and slush.

While traveling, the Subaru spun around, crossed over the road’s centerline and then moved backwards onto the southbound road shoulder, striking a utility pole with its rear end, police report.

Police said McDermott was not injured. Police said they verbally warned McDermott for traveling too fast for conditions.

Warrants

Police report they went to Danbury Superior Court on March 1 and served two arrest warrants against  Tony Schick, 25, of Danbury, who was in court in connection with other matters.

Police said they arrested Schick on charges of first-degree larceny and third-degree burglary in connection with an incident last October 22 on Chestnut Hill Road in Sandy Hook. Both charges are felonies.

In that incident, jewelry, personal papers, and some money was stolen, police have said. First-degree larceny represents the theft of items worth more than $20,000.

Also, police said they arrested Schick on a charge of sixth-degree larceny in connection with an incident last November 5 on Huntingtown Road.

Schick was arraigned on those charges in court on March 1. Schick was being held on March 3 on various criminal charges on $212,000 bail at Bridgeport Correctional Center. Schick is scheduled to appear again in Danbury Superior Court on March 22.

Car Wash Theft

On the morning of March 3, Fairfield police notified Newtown police that they had in custody a man for whom Newtown police held an arrest warrant.

Newtown police then arrested Samuel Anthony, 39, of Bridgeport on a charge of third-degree larceny, which is a felony.

Police said Anthony allegedly stole money from Newtown Car Wash on Simm Lane in July 2008. Based on the charge and the period during which the crime allegedly occurred, the amount of money stolen would have ranged from $1,000 to $5,000.

Police held Anthony on $5,000 bail for a March 3 court arraignment.

Alcohol Aftermath

After learning that police held warrants for their arrest, twin brothers from Monroe turned themselves over to police at the police station on the morning of March 2 and were each charged with failure to respond to an infraction, police said.

Police said they arrested Joshua Berez and Aaron Berez, both 20, on the charges.

Police said they obtained warrants against the Berez brothers because they had not responded to infractions which they received on May 30, 2009, on charges of illegal possession of alcohol by a minor on private property. Those tickets carry $136 fines.

The Berez brothers were among 12 underage people who received alcohol violations from police stemming from a party held at a Button Shop Road home.

Each brother posted $136 bail on March 2. Both were released for March 16 appearances in Danbury Superior Court.
