To the Editor:

I’m Ed Randall, and I’m asking you to vote to return me to the Board of Assessment Appeals.

It was my good fortune to move to Newtown in 1985. As a widowed single parent, raising my children here, I was aided by our fabulous schools, and by the help of so many of the kind families of Newtown. It’s even better here recently; Newtown has been named the safest place in Connecticut (FBI data) and has a AAA S&P rating, many roads have been repaved, and our schools and businesses are open again.

Now that my “kids” are big and beautiful, I’ve been able to give back to this great community through my work on the Board of Assessment Appeals. People come to the BAA to present property and motor vehicle assessment appeals. My experience selling real estate, building onto my home, and fixing cars have all helped me to know about real and personal property values. As a 40-year veteran of classroom teaching, the strengths I bring to the BAA are my well-known patience, rigorous honesty, excellent problem-solving skills, and eclectic thinking. My good listening skills ensure that I can understand people’s complaints when there are inequities in assessments. I know how to ask the questions that help people explain their problems. These skills have helped the BAA come to resolutions that consider both the individual and all of Newtown.

I would be honored to be voted back to the Board of Assessment Appeals. If so, I would use every method available to solve your assessment issues, without preconceived notions or partisanship.

The election is on November 2; please vote!

And please vote for Ed Randall for the Board of Assessment Appeals.

Ed Randall
