Donations Sought For Lions Club Community Tag Sale
The first of two new fundraisers by Newtown Lions Club is scheduled for this month.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the club’s Playground Project Committee, which will add three pieces of adaptive playground equipment to a local public playground.
The first event is a community tag sale, scheduled for Saturday, September 25. It will betake place on the lawn area of Chintz-N-Prints, at 39 South Main Street. Donations are still being accepted. Contact committee member Neil Randle at neilprandle1962@gmail.com for details.
Halloween Trivia Quiz Night
The club is also planning Halloween Trivia Quiz Night, Randle recently told The Newtown Bee, for later next month.
Costumes are encouraged, and all ages are welcome to join the club in the Great Room of Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, from 7 to 9:30 pm, on Friday, October 22.
A mid-October Stay At Home Treasure Hunt is also a possibility, Randle noted. Two previous events have been very successful for the club, with the second one, this past spring, realizing more than $1,800 through many donations of loose change.
The local Lions have been raising funds since May 2020 to purchase and installed adaptive playground equipment at Dickinson Memorial Park. The effort recently received a huge boost thanks to a $90,000 appropriation from a Town of Newtown budget surplus.
The club had raised $42,750 as of mid-August. Its goal is $174,000 for the entire project, including purchase and installation.
