Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Classic

Set For Monday, Sept. 12

The Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Classic, sponsored by the Newtown Rotary Club, will be held Monday, September 12, at Tashua Knolls Golf Club in Trumbull.

 Proceeds will support the Family Counseling Center, Kevin’s Place, Shelter of the Cross, and other projects supported by Rotary International.

An autographed photo of Tiger Woods and one of his signature “tiger” golf club covers was added recently to the list of prizes.

“Rotary Club member Julia Wasserman made the initial contact with Tiger Woods through a friend and Bob Grossman helped out,” said Dick Sturdevant, tournament chairman.

The tournament is the second annual held in the memory of  Rotary member Jim Osborne, who was an integral part of the organization for more than 50 years.

Entry is $160, which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, refreshments on the golf course, and dinner. The event is limited to 32 foursomes.

The day begins at 11 am with registration, a putting contest, and the practice range available. Lunch is at 11:30. The tourney begins with a shotgun scramble at 12:30 pm. Cocktails and dinner will be served at 5:30 pm. Nongolfers are invited to come for cocktails and dinner at $50 per person.

The tourney includes two hole-in-one prizes: $10,000 and a 2005 automobile. There are prizes for low net and low gross; closest to the pin, 50/50 hole, longest drive, and straightest drive.
