Respite Retreat For Caregivers
Respite Retreat For Caregivers
Golden Opportunities, a nonprofit organization located in Sandy Hook that provides outreach services to those experiencing loneliness, isolation, or a sense of helplessness, will sponsor âRespite Retreat for Caregivers,â Saturday, November 14, from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, at the Heritage Hotel, 522 Heritage Road, Southbury.
The free event includes presentations, lunch, and a reception at the end of the day.
The program is intended for caregivers of anyone with special needs, whether it be a parent, child, friend, or relative who is chronically or seriously ill.
The day is intended to provide caregivers with programs to develop coping skills, and to provide a break from daily duties, said Golden Opportunities director Knettie Archard.
Presenters will include Father Dom Roscioli from Wisconsin, Joyce Saltman, and Anna Nelson.
Father Dom will address the sense of isolation sometimes experienced by caregivers. Ms Saltman is a well-known therapist and laughter consultant who will speak on the value of humor when caregiving. Ms Nelson, from the Alzheimerâs Association, will discuss meaningful and useful activities to do with loved ones, and methods to keep the mind active.
A question and answer period will follow each presentation.
Participants will be eligible for free giveaways and prizes throughout the day.
The program is free of charge, but registration by Thursday, November 12, is necessary. To register or for more information, call Golden Opportunities at 426-3301.Â
