Business background: According to the company’s website, Frank Pitrone, Sr, saw the need for a custom shower door manufacturer and opened Apex Glass to service that customer base in Fairfield County in 1962, soon expanding to providing patio doors and storm products, bathroom mirrors, and a growing line of other glass services. In 1992, after 30 years, Frank Pitrone, Jr, took on ownership and further expanded Apex’s territory beyond Newtown/Sandy Hook and Brookfield, to as far as New York City and West Passaic, N.J., northward to Cornwall and up to northern Massachusetts. Recently, new ownership was sought, attracting Danbury resident Von Wilson to the opportunity and eventual acquisition.

Business focus: Wilson is trained in mechanical engineering and applied that expertise on staff as a metal fabricator and designer at Pitney Bowes. She also has been involved in the real estate field and holds a general contractor’s license as part of a supplemental business acquiring, improving, and readying homes for sale. She has been looking to acquire a related business for some time and jumped at the chance to purchase Apex Glass. Wilson says she is fortunate to be able to ease into that new ownership with the full support of the existing staff and former owner, Frank Pitrone, Jr, who will remain active with the business for the foreseeable future.

Important to know: “I was looking for a company that was already running and running very well, that has a solid reputation, and that I can have an opportunity to help grow further,” Wilson told The Newtown Bee. “I plan to branch into new areas of the window and glass business — there is a mountain of opportunities here, and I am engaged with looking at what we already have in order to help it grow successfully. Right now, I’m just interested in giving every customer more of what Apex Glass is known for — high quality work, exceptional products, and a great team. I could not have stepped into a better position.”

Near future promotions, events, seasonal specialties: As Wilson is new to the position, she is in the early stage of planning promotions that will have value and appeal to both long-time and new Apex Glass customers. Visitors to the company website and social network sites will begin seeing upcoming promotions as they are announced.
