REDDING — The second-seeded Newtown High School’s boys’ volleyball team gave host and top-seeded Joel Barlow of Redding all it could handle in the first set and hung in there for much of the third set before falling 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-18) in the May 26 South-West Conference championship match.

Thad Teraszkiewicz had nine kills, two aces, and six digs; Matt Mattera logged eight kills and six digs; Aidan Stout had five kills, eight digs, and one block; Jasin Kodzodziku had three blocks to go along with one kill and two digs; and Sawyer Findley tallied 24 assists and a trio of digs.

Newtown is the No. 9 seed and will visit No. 8 Shelton in the Class L state tournament's first round, Wednesday, June 2, at 4 pm. Shelton edged NHS in a close regular-season match.
