Brian David Bennett
Brian David Bennett, of Newtown, Conn., age 83, loving father and grandfather, died peacefully on May 20, after a two year battle with lung cancer. He grew up in Manhattan and attended Blair Academy in New Jersey and then NYU. Brian started his professional career in advertising in New York and then moved to St Petersburg, Florida, where he co-founded the Tampa-based advertising firm Bennett and Neubert, Inc. He later moved to Connecticut where, while semi-retired, he worked at Newtown Savings Bank.
Anyone who knew Brian knew his real joy was spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters. He loved cheering his granddaughters on at their many high school soccer and lacrosse games and cherished his family Sunday dinners.
Brian had a passion for theater and found such joy attending Broadway shows and traveling to the West End in London. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his cell phone that he hung around his neck that earned him the nickname “Flavor Flav.” Brian also had a special place in his heart for his friends at the FAITH Food Pantry of Newtown, where he volunteered.
He is survived by his two daughters, Tiffanie Bennett of Fairfield and Tara Kortze and her husband, John Kortze, of Newtown; and two granddaughters, Cassidy Kortze and Keeley Kortze, both of Newtown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Bennett and Eileen Altfilish; his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Felice Lundy; and his beloved dog, Mame.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to FAITH Food Pantry of Newtown at newtownfoodpantry.org.
