Owned Newtown Taxi

Martha Velthuizen, 82, of Newtown died December 29 in Pope John Paul II Center for Healthcare, Danbury. Mrs Velthuizen was the wife of the late Andre Velthuizen. She was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on February 26, 1923, a daughter of Everhardus and Alida (Jesus) Evers.

She and her husband were the owners and operators of Newtown Taxi. She was a resident of Newtown from 1955 to 1986 when she moved to Florida, returning to Newtown in 1998 to be with her family.

Mrs Velthuizen is survived by two sons, Andre Velthuizen, Jr, and his wife, Margaret “Peggy,” and Johan Velthuizen and his wife, Jill, all of Newtown; three sisters, Lous Wagevoort, Marie Evers, and Fien Hooft, all of the Netherlands; two grandchildren, Vincent Velthuizen of Torrington and Michelle Velthuizen of Newtown.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 5, at 11 am, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main Street, Danbury CT 06810.
