Newtown High School’s girls’ lacrosse team played three games in as many days, winning two of them and getting scoring contributions from up and down the lineup this past week. The Nighthawks bested Weston 14-5 on April 22, fell 9-8 to New Fairfield on April 23, then toppled Notre Dame-Fairfield 18-3 the next day. Newtown had one of its most competitive contests of the season in an April 27 visit to Joel Barlow of Redding and came out on top 6-5.

Against Weston, Elena Sughrue netted four goals, and Bella Gerace and Gia Corso each scored three times to lift the offense. Erin Phanuef, Isabella Butler, Shea Murphy, and Summer Harrell also scored for the Nighthawks. Julia Gerace and Butler both had two assists.

In the New Fairfield contest, Sughrue led the Hawks with a hat-trick, Butler scored twice, and Bella Gerace, Corso, and Murphy scored. Butler had a pair of assists.

Newtown got five goals each from Harrell and Emily Hammond in the win over Notre Dame. Jules Battaglia scored three, Annika Bozentko scored twice, and Ava Mitchell, Sara Miller, and Gabby Soltis each added a net-finder. Hammond had four assists, and Battaglia had a trio of assists.

The Barlow game was knotted at 5-5 when Bella Gerace scored what proved to be the deciding goal, her second of the contest. Phaneuf and Julia Gerace also scored twice. Sughrue recorded an assist.

Newtown follows up Thursday's matchup against New Milford with visit to Masuk of Monroe on Saturday, May 1, starting at 11 am.
