Blood Drives Planned Through End Of March
The American Red Cross has five blood drives scheduled at a local house of worship before the end of next month.
Newtown Congregational Church, at 14 West Street, will host events on Friday, February 26, from 11 am to 4 pm; Thursday, March 11, 1:30-6 pm; Friday, March 12, 9 am-1:30 pm, Thursday, March 25, 8:30 am-1:30 pm; and Friday, March 26, 9 am-2 pm.
The blood drives will be conducted in the church’s Great Room, which is easily reached through the upper rear parking lot. Signs will be posted, and an American Red Cross van is usually parked near that entrance.
Donors must weight at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old and in generally good health.
All donations are tested for COVID-19 antibodies.
COVID-19 protocols, including masks and social distancing, are being followed.
Appointments are strongly encouraged and can be made by calling 800-733-2767 or online at redcrossblood.org.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the church has stepped up its schedule of blood drives to help replenish the American Red Cross supply, which has been low. The church usually conducts eight blood drives annually. By the end of 2020, it had hosted at least 17, and several drives have already been held in 2021.
