Marie Klemis Canfield
Marie (Klemis) Canfield, a lifetime resident at Pine Street in Sandy Hook, went to the Lord on January 26. She was born September 10, 1932, the daughter of Bernard J. Klemis and Elizabeth (Casey) Klemis of Sandy Hook.
Marie is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leon “Lee” Canfield of Newtown; her son, Thomas, of Durham, N.H., her daughter, Mary, of Lake Ariel, Penn.; and her special cousins, “her girls” Coleen James and family of Windsor, Conn., Megin Coleman and family of Avon, Conn., and Martha Flannery and family of West Hartford, Conn., along with a large, extended family.
She was a lifetime member of St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown. Marie worked at the cafeterias in both Sandy Hook Elementary and Newtown High School in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Marie and Lee enjoyed traveling together in a trailer during the summer months for 40 years. During the 1980s and the 1990s she ran “Marie’s Gadgets” at local flea markets.
She was a kind, loving soul who tried to always show her love to others.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, February 4, from 4 to 7 pm at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown on Friday, February 5, at 10:30 am. The funeral mass will also be available online at strosechurch.com/live-stream.
Interment will be at St Rose Cemetery immediately following the service.
