To the Editor:

The young ‘Cubs’ of Cub Scout Pack 270, chartered by the Newtown Congregational Church, want to express their appreciation and gratitude to all the members of the Newtown community who supported their recent popcorn fundraising event. All over town, the cubs went out “foraging” for support, and our community opened their hearts and wallets!

A special note of thanks to Mike Sorrentino and the entire team at Newtown Hardware who allowed our Scouts to set up shop outside their front door. Patron after patron stopped to say hello, share stories of their own Scouting experiences, and leave a few bucks in the donation jar or take home some popcorn.

The Scout law says that a “Scout is . . . friendly, courteous, and kind” and our Scouts certainly felt and experienced these values from our community. Our heartfelt gratitude to all who supported us and the Scouting program that benefits our youth and the community.
