How long have you been in business?

I purchased Linda Bates’ former CPA practice in March, although I’ve worked in the accounting industry for over 30 years. I started my career as an auditor for Deloitte & Touche and spent some time as corporate controller, but the majority of my career has been working in tax preparation. I’ve worked in Newtown for about 15 years at other CPA firms and actually worked for Linda shortly after I moved to Newtown. We kept in touch and when I ran into her more recently she expressed an interest in having someone take over the practice — so the transition began and went smoothly from there.

What is the service your business offers?

My practice now is predominantly tax prep, with other accounting responsibilities for a few select clients. I like developing relationships with clients so I can offer them hands-on and very personalized service. By getting the full picture of their challenges and needs, I stick with them and guide them through any issues — and I’m and there to celebrate their accomplishments. Speaking of challenges, I purchased this company the day before Connecticut shut down the economy. But as an essential business, we figured out a way to do all drive-up, almost touch-free services — so we can joke that 2020 was our first and hopefully last fully “drive-through” tax season. In regard to the upcoming tax season, I’m advising all my small business clients who applied and received PPP loans to also be sure they apply for forgiveness. And with the new presidential administration coming in, I’m anticipating a lot of changes this year that will affect my business and personal tax clients in 2022.

Are you hosting any near-future promotions or events?

We decided to forego any open house or grand opening because of the virus. But we are prepared to use electronic means like Zoom conferences and other virtual tactics to be sure our clients get all the services they require.
