Another Pool Record Set As Swimmers Compete With Pomperaug
Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team had another record-setting performance. Coming off a meet in which the Nighthawks set a pair of pool event records, the team’s 200-yard medley relay team of Caroline Mahoney, Cate Fischer, Brianna Deierlein, and Payton Bradley set the pool record with a time of 1:55.31 during Newtown’s meet with Pomperaug of Southbury on October 15.
The Nighthawks, who defeated Pomperaug handily earlier in the season, were without two key team members in a 97-87 setback, the team’s first loss of the fall.
Sofia Doersch won the 200 freestyle race in 2:04.07. Mahoney won the 50 free in 25.78. Doersch took the top spot in the 100 butterfly event in 1:03.27. Deierlein came in first in the 100 with a time of 54.19.
Newtown’s 200 free relay team of Deierlein, Doersch, Mahoney, and Bradley was first in 1:44.34. Deierlein claimed the top spot in the 100 backstroke race, clocking in at 1:01.68.
