Vote ‘For The People’

To the Editor:

Trump has unleashed a policy of lawlessness that benefits himself, not “for the people.” He has given permission to Republicans, in general, to do the same. Candidates Sullivan (Congresswoman Hayes’ Republican opponent), Bolinsky (state representative), and Hwang (state senator) illegally and jointly hung a plastic bag of political literature on mailboxes throughout Sandy Hook — conveniencing themselves, not “for the people.” The USPS website clearly states its illegality.

Vice-President Joe Biden and Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (5th District) govern “for the people.” Biden has a decades-long proven record of representing “all” of his constituents. Congresswoman Hayes has represented “all” of her constituents during her initial Congressional term. Example: She asked to be on the Agricultural Committee, knowing that her district includes a large number of farmers. She hasn’t considered their party affiliation while legislating for their best interests.

McConnell, for six years, made good on his promise to obstruct President Obama from governing “for the people” by not bringing legislation to the floor for the purpose of denying a “win” to President Obama. Two examples: negotiating a new trade deal and criminal justice reform. Speaker Pelosi could have refused to bring USMCA and the First Step Act to the floor to deny a “win” to Trump. Instead, regarding USMCA, the House Democrats negotiated for a year for provisions to improve worker’s rights, and also to remove Trump’s provision that would have granted manufacturers of extremely expensive drugs ten years of protection from less expensive knockoffs. The First Step Act was constructed and passed on a bipartisan basis; however, Trump’s Department of Justice is now preventing proper implementation of it. Congresswoman Hayes voted “yes” for both of these bills “for the people,” regardless of giving bragging rights to Trump.

Vote for Joe Biden and Jahana Hayes “for the people.”
