Save Connecticut: Vote Republican

To the Editor:

Our state has suffered under one-party rule for too long. Over the past 20 years, our bonded debt has tripled to $33.6 billion. Combined with unfunded retirement costs, our obligations have ballooned to $67.4 billion or $51,000 per taxpayer making us the third most indebted state in the nation. Make no mistake, this continued debt growth is unsustainable, and the Governor may thrust these expenses down to municipalities like Newtown.

We have watched major employers like GE and United Technologies leave our state while small businesses struggle because Connecticut is no longer friendly to them. Unsurprisingly, our GDP growth is in the bottom five nationally while our tax rate is second highest.

Recently, the Democratic majority rushed through legislation that weakens our police protection and is now calling to remove resource officers from schools. Have they forgotten so quickly?

We cannot afford to send people to Hartford who support policies detrimental to our state. We need fiscal responsibility, job growth, and support for our brave first responders including the police. We need voices who champion these principles rather than give support to the far left’s reckless agenda.

Please vote to return Senator Tony Hwang and Representatives Mitch Bolinsky, JP Szredzinski, and Dan Carter back to Hartford. None of these proven leaders have voted to raise taxes. Mitch is a watchdog for school funding and champion for senior tax relief. Tony introduced bipartisan legislation, backed by Newtown’s house delegation, to increase penalties for school related crimes. Tony, Mitch, Dan, and JP will get us back on course toward prosperity. Please also support David X. Sullivan for US Congress. His extensive experience as federal prosecutor will serve us well as he advocates forcefully for our state in Washington.

Save Connecticut. Vote Republican. Tuesday, November 3.

Dennis Brestovansky

Chair, Newtown Republican Town Committee
